I got to watch this game and was quite impressed with Ballard. She’s going to be really good by end of season if she continues to develop. There were a couple kills where she went well above the block. It’s interesting that both she and McKenna had the same brace on the same leg, in addition to them both being 6’2, blonde and similar build. I got them mixed up a couple of times. Regarding the setter, I thought she was pretty composed and played well considering she’s a freshman. She’s got a good vertical, but she’s only 5’7, and will be a big liability on the block against stronger teams. I agree with most of this, but Whitney Bower is listed at 5'9". Her sister Morgan, a DS, is the one who is 5'7". She's a little undersized either way, but Lyndie Haddock-Eppich was only an inch taller and was the best blocking setter in the country last season. I think she is just tall enough that she'll be okay. thanks for correcting the height, but my point remains the same. I was at the game in the third row, and she didn’t get high enough to provide a strong enough block for tougher competition. Yes, Haddock was an inch taller but she got up higher with better timing and hand position. These are things Bower will likely develop, but my observation was that she just does not have those skills now and it will get exposed by better teams.

Sure, I agree that she didn't seem to get high enough at times (I also noticed this on some of her dump attacks, one of which she put directly into the net). But she's also 17. I think I agree that it's an issue right now. We'll see how long that remains the case.
