Happyvalley, seriously you’re threatened by Mizzou playing well. Sure sounds like it, what happened they didn’t recruit your daughter? Did you also conveniently forget when Mizzou upset Big Ten Purdue in the second round of the tournament or beat Kansas. They are loaded this year and I for once am glad to see other teams have success. It’s also great for the naysayers that whined because Josh Taylor and his wife didn’t have the experience to take over this kind of program. I rooting for Mizzou and for the Taylors. Nice to see some new blood in the coaching ranks. Yeah I couldn't understand why some people thought that it was bonkers that the Taylors were being handed the keys to the program. You would think it would be the actual fan base that would be the ones who would potentially be uptight about it, but the gripes seemed to be from outside observers. While Mizzou fans were sad to see the Kreklows go, you got the sense that the fan base were confident that Team Taylor would keep moving the program forward w/out too many hiccups. I'm excited to see the duo grow into the job and I like hearing Josh talk about wanting to incorporate more from the men's game. Who's your main team, BTW?

I am a Kylie Deberg fan, and have been since she committed to Hambly's Illinois program while playing high school volleyball in Iowa. Not seeing much chance to start at OH at Illinois until her junior year, she made the choice to transfer. Obviously, it was the right choice for Kylie, and I am very happy for her success at Mizzou. Deberg is a very powerful 6 rotation outside. Her weakness as a freshman at Illinois, and really also last season at Missouri, is that she has tended to be fairly high error. Limit the errors, and she should be All-American. Also noteworthy, is that Kylie has a wicked serve, and puts up an imposing block. What more could Missouri ask for? Finally, I am a fan of Kylie's demeanor on the court and in the huddle. My observation is that she is reserved and unassuming by nature, and that she leads by example. In high school, Kylie's small school Hudson High team won or lost according to how dominant Kylie was in a match. She never let her dominance go to her head. Hudson High rode Kylie's dominance to second place in Iowa's small school state tournament. As I remember, Hudson was not accustomed to advancing so far in state. Whereas, the team that beat them was a fixture in the small school state finals. The town of Hudson is very close to the University of Northern Iowa. How did Coach Bobbi Petersen let Kylie get away? UNI's successful program is built on Iowa players from Iowa high schools around them. I would imagine Coach Christy Johnson-Lynch at Iowa State wooed Kylie as well. And I know for a fact, from visiting with a relative of Kylie's at a U of I volleyball match, that disgraced Iowa volleyball coach Shymansky continued to pursue Kylie after she had verbally committed to Illinois. I'm certainly glad Deberg, and Omazic, fell into Mizzou's lap last year. I think it would have been pretty rough if they hadn't come in, as Missouri lost a lot of seniors from the previous year. I joked about how Mizzou had opened up a recruiting pipeline into Champagne by picking up three transfers. I know what you are saying about Deberg's demeanor, she reminds me of one of my favorite pro-baseball players, Willie McGee. That sounds funny to say, but Willie was such an awkward guy who looked pained to be in the spotlight much of the time, he was a very humble guy and likeable guy. Deberg seems almost embarrassed at times after a kill. It's so funny to see her and tiny Leketor side-by-side.
I dig your B. Franklin reference, BTW. Also, I know Illinois and Mizzou are soft rivals, but I still found myself rooting for the Illini in last year's Final Four.

It’s cool how Baylor, Hawaii, and Missouri are all going into this tournament undefeated. (Assuming they can take care of Boise state today) but I think none of the three are gonna make it out of here undefeated. I bet they all lose at least one. Yeah really smart for the three coaches to set this tournament up and really impressed that these teams belong to the few undefeated in the country. I'd say it will be the highlight matches next week.

The attitude of Big Ten fans is the main reason why I always cheer for Big Ten teams to lose.

Are all Penn State fans so insecure? Obnoxiously so that they have to plaster a resume and team photos in their signature. Vbgirls2 didn't claim to beat anybody and I don't think Missouri is her team. She said she roots for "other teams." Who did you beat? I mean personally cause it sounds like you must have been an integral part of Penn State's success... Player? Coach?

I thought Mizzou could have been ranked to start the season, but not that important. I expect this and next season to be successful seasons (at least first round win, good chance of Sweet 16 and with the right matchup maybe more). After 2020 season Mizzou will lose many starters. I hope the recruiting can pick up again for 2021 and beyond. I wonder to what level the interim tag for Coach Taylor has on recruiting?

I haven't had a chance to see any Mizzou matches (many not available online for a YouTube replay, it seems (or I'm not looking hard enough)), but what happened to Sents? Leandra Mangual-Duran looked decent the one time I caught a livestream, but she's listed as an OH (making her a 6' libero).
Looks like Mizzou took a beating this weekend, but I'm not sure that will do much to their ranking, and it certainly doesn't do anything to their potential in SEC play. If Deberg is playing with more confidence, and it sure seems it, then Mizzou should still be a T25, although maybe on the lower end since there won't be many times for them to climb the rankings with conference play coming up. Plus, the polls are kinda a mess anyway.

Plus, the polls are kinda a mess anyway. Well, I wouldn't call it "a beating." They lost two of three sets to Baylor by 2 and 3 points. They drubbed Hawaii in two of five sets, and just came up short in that last set. While they came away 0-2, they showed they can hang in there competitively with the some of the top teams in the nation. Regardless, I think they will be more hardened by this weekend's play as they enter conference play.
Missouri's passing was a real issue last year and a part of it was Sents. Not to say she WAS the problem, but she didn't have the range to cover the shortcomings of her teammates. Too many mediocre passers around her and it was real painful to watch the defense completely fall apart at times. Deberg plays six rotations and she's not in there for her defense. She's not bad, but at 6'4" she doesn't exactly pounce like a cat. Sents is much more solid now that she isn't the focal point on passing and Turner, a DS, is also getting a bit more playing time. One of the recent broadcasts, the play-by-play announcers were saying that Josh Taylor was impressed with Leandra's defense in spring scrimmages and asked her to help shore up the defense. I'm assuming libero isn't the long-term plan for her, but she's getting much more playing time now as a DS than she would if she was strictly an OH this year. It bodes well for her future if she's capable of being a six-rotation player.

Missouri played well against Hawaii, Baylor on the other hand was just on another level. I don't think anyone wants to face this Missouri team come NCAA tournament time. Very dangerous team if you ask me.
