SAN VITO LO CAPO, ITALY - The International School Sport Federation (ISF) World Schools Beach Volleyball Championships are October 4-9, 2019 in San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily, Italy. The United States is represented by three teams from California. The Boys U18 team are Ian Guss (Westlake Village, CA) and Michael Shahidi (Westlake Village, CA), recent grads from Westlake High School. Michael Shahidi competed in the last edition of the ISF World Championships in Papeete, Tahiti where he placed fourth overall in the Boys U16 Division. The team qualified via the AAU Winter Nationals in Hermosa Beach, CA.
In the Girls U18 Division, Maya Harvey (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Ava Kirunchyk (Redondo Beach, CA) from Redondo Union High School will represent the United States, after finishing first at the AAU/ISF National Trials in Hermosa Beach and the ISF Pan American Schools Beach Volleyball Championships in Orlando, FL. The United States are the defending champions in the Girls U18 Division where Sammy Slater (USC) and Alexis Fillipone (Pepperdine) earned the gold medal in 2017 in Tahiti. The Girls U16 team are Jenna Colligan (Manhattan Beach, CA) and Molly Trodd (Manhattan Beach, CA) from Mira Costa High School where they secured the entry via the Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League (IBVL).
The ISF is the recognized scholastic federation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) where the organization conducts scholastic world championships every two years in several different sports, in addition to the Gymnasiade (High School) Multi-Sport Games. The volleyball competition is in cooperation with the FIVB. The Amateur Athletic Union of the United States (AAU) is the recognized body representing the USA in all ISF sports. The Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League (IBVL) is a program of the Southern Pacific Volleyball Committee of the AAU.
