I like to check on Valpo once in a while (family connection). They occasionally won the Horizon League. I assume they have no chance in the MVC. Let's see: 6-12 (1-3 in MVC), RPI 162. Nope.

I'm surprised Illinois State isn't co-dominating along with Northern Iowa. Coach Petersen is the real deal, the way she maximizes the talent she has. Karlie Taylor is great, but this wasn't exactly a vintage UNI team defensively at the beginning of the season. Yet here they are, atop the MVC again.

This thread is about MVC. With the Pac-13 down this year only 4-5 teams may get invites instead of the usual 8 so the MVC may get more invites. The MVC should be very grateful to the Pac-12.

The MVC should be very grateful to the Pac-12. if the PAC truly is down this year and they get fewer teams in, then yes, it would provide some extra opportunities for other conferences. But I doubt the MVC will be one of those conferences, because at-large bids are still mostly based on RPI, and I don't think MVC teams will have good enough RPIs to make the at-large bubble. (UNI's RPI might end up there, but I think they're the mostly likely team to win the AQ in the conference tourney, unless something big changes between now and Thanksgiving weekend)

Headed for Normal/Peoria this weekend. Hoping the Ramblers can hang on to the top spot after 3 tough matches in 4 days.

Closing in on the end of the first half of conference play, with all MVC teams having played 8 of their 9 conference opponents once (the MVC has a true double-round-robin schedule where each team plays every other conference team twice: once at home, and once on the road. the way conference play is meant to be handled).
4 or the 10 teams will complete their first half circuit on Monday night. Including a matchup of the top 2 teams: Loyola-Chicago and UNI, who are tied atop the standings at 7-1 in conference play. The winner of that Monday night match in Chicago will sit alone atop the conference (for the time being), while the loser will fall to 2nd place, half a game ahead of Illinois State (6-2), who has defeated both the Panthers and the Ramblers (but has dropped two other matches to other MVC teams).
Rounding out the top half of the conference standings are Evansville and Bradley at 5-3, both with a 2-match cushion over the 6th place. Giving these 5 teams a leg up on making the 6-team conference tournament (held at UNI this year, on Thanksgiving weekend) and the chance to compete for the league's AQ spot in the NCAA tournament (likely to be the only tournament bid for the MVC this season, as none of the teams look to be in favorable RPI position for an at-large).

Illinois State's RPI is at 81 with a futures prediction of 60 Loyola's RPI is at 100 with a futures prediction of 95. The rest are all 150+

One final night of matches left in regular season play for the MVC. The 6 teams that will compete in the conference tournament are decided, though some of the seeds could depend on Saturday night's results.
#1 UNI (16-1) - The Panthers clinched an outright MVC regular season championship with tonight's win over Loyola, and will have the #1 seed and a bye into the semifinals regardless of how their Saturday night match against Valparaiso turns out. UNI had an RPI of 44 in last week's RPI release, and are the only MVC team with any hopes of an at-large bid, but would still be nervous come Selection Sunday if they fail to win the auto-bid. They are hosting the conference tourney this year, though.
#2 Loyola-Chicago (13-4) - The Ramblers are locked into the #2 seed, and will get the other bye into the semifinals, regardless of how their Saturday match at Drake ends up. LU played UNI tough in Cedar Falls tonight, and they certainly have a chance of pulling the upset should both teams advance to the championship match.
[3/4] Illinois State (11-6) Redbirds [4/3] Bradley (10-7) Braves ISU will get the #3 seed unless they lose at home in their final match against Evansville AND Bradley wins at home against Indiana State. Bradley won both head-to-head matches against ISU, and would thus hold the tiebreaker.
[5/6] Valparaiso (8-9) Crusaders [6/5] Evansville (7-10) Purple Aces Valpo will get the #5 seed unless they lose at UNI and Evansville wins at Illinois State. VU and UE split their season series, but the Aces would hold the "power rating" tiebreaker in that situation thanks to a pair of match wins over Illinois State.
--------------------------------------- [teams eliminated from contention for the conference tournament] Missouri State (7-11) Bears - MSU could end up tied with Evansville, should the Aces lose, but UE swept the season series with the Bears. Southern Illinois (6-12) Salukis Indiana State (5-12) Sycamores Drake (3-14) Bulldogs

MVC tournament bracket is set.
QF#2 will be a rematch of teams that played tonight. and it is possible that UNI could face the same two teams next weekend as they did this weekend, just in opposite order (though that would require Valpo to upset Bradley on Thursday evening)
