MVC tournament bracket is set. QF#2 will be a rematch of teams that played tonight. and it is possible that UNI could face the same two teams next weekend as they did this weekend, just in opposite order (though that would require Valpo to upset Bradley on Thursday evening) The way Valpo played vs UNI... and how Bradley has been playing. Me thinks Valpo won't get the upset... though Valpo swept BU 11/16. UNI RPI 40. ISU 95. Loyola 106. Bradley 147. At the end of the day... UNI will get a serious look if they don't win the tournament for an at large.

They should just win the thing. It's at home, they should win.

minor rant: I got to the arena about 20 minutes before the start of the first match this evening and they had already run out of programs (and there weren't that many people there tonight, with it being Thanksgiving, and the host team not even playing tonight). It isn't like they print up separate programs for the different matches or even the different nights. The same program is used throughout.
Evidently they decided to only put out a few tonight and save most of them for tomorrow.. I'd be surprised if they put out much more than 30 tonight. Lame.

IL St vs Loyola should be a good one. Was surprised Valpo took BU. Not a very clean match.

IL St vs Loyola should be a good one. Was surprised Valpo took BU. Not a very clean match. Valpo swept BU (15 22 19) a couple weeks ago when they played at VU, so I didn't find the result all that surprising. But yeah, BU had alot of unforced hitting errors and service errors. And Valpo's libero had quite a match.

Hope ISU wins (despite NIU being the better team). ISU winning is the only way for 2 MVC teams to play in the NCAA. UNI, not "NIU". As a Panther fan, if UNI had a bit better RPI (and maybe a top 25 win or another couple top 50 wins) I'd be more alright with ISU winning. But as it is, if that happens, I will be nervous on Sunday.

Bobbi tells it like it is. UNI didn't play very well yesterday. ISU did. Both teams have been streaky on and off all season, with ISU having greater fluctuations (their highpoint was probably a bit better than UNI's, but their low points were lower, hence the multiple conference losses)

I am not surprised ISU lost to Evansville at Evansville. State has historically played much better at home than they do away. So far this season they are 4-1 at home and 5-5 away from home. I keep an eye on ISU's results throughout the season, but generally do not pay much attention to the rest of the conference. The conference typically has 3 or 4 good teams at the top that beat up on the rest of the conference. Missouri State has historically been one of the top teams, but is in disarray with the loss of their long-time coach. I thought Bradley would be better this season based on watching the team last year under their new coach. UNI so far is having a down year, but I look for their record to get much better as they make their way through conference. As far as whether the conference receives more than one NCAA tourney team, a lot depends on who wins the conference tourney at the end of the season. If ISU were to win the regular season in convincing fashion, and then lose in the finals of the league tourney, they just may receive an at-large bid. There does not seem to be any outrage about Northern Iowa getting an at-large bid, even though they lost to every good team they played this year. And, they got swept badly in the finals of the MVC by Illinois State (who won 2 out of 3 matches vs. UNI over the course of the season). What Coach Petersen did do with her team was finish the MVC schedule with a 19-1 record. I believe those in the know ("jayj79") would acknowledge that the MVC was particularly weak this season. This is exactly what I forecasted at the start of the season Illinois State might do if they had a similar conference season to Northern Iowa and lost in the conference tourney. The difference would be that at least ISU had a couple of notable non-conference wins over UCF and Illinois.

ISU's notable non-conference wins: - home win against UCF (RPI 24) - home win against Illinois (RPI 50) UNI's notable non-conference wins: - road win at Texas State (RPI 30) - neutral site win against Green Bay (RPI 45) UNI's notable bad losses: - 2 home losses to Illinois State (RPI 78) - neutral site loss to Boise State (RPI 93) the rest of their losses are all to teams that had an RPI 46 or better and made the tournamentISU's notable bad losses: - @ Missouri State (RPI 237) - @ Southern Illinois (RPI 231) - @ Evansville (RPI 206) - 2 losses (home and away) to Bradley (RPI 161) - neutral site loss to Miami-Ohio (RPI 96) - @ Ohio State (RPI 63) - neutral site loss to Pepperdine (RPI 55)
