Chinese League ends January 21, 2020. I'm surprised they shorted it that much compared to last season when it ended in March. I know they wanted to have more time to prepare for Tokyo, but that's A LOT of extra time. I didn't see a schedule yet. Does the regular season end on January 21 or are the finals also finished on January 21? I return to China in January and won't know what to do if there is no volleyball. If I read it correctly is said that the finals should end on January 21. Here's the link to the article I found. k.sina.com.cn/article_7061996722_1a4ed84b200100imrq.html?cre=tianyi&mod=pcpager_focus&loc=3&r=9&rfunc=88&tj=none&tr=9

First Stage (The top two teams in each pool qualify for the next round)
Pool A: Beijing, Bayi, Fujian Pool B: Tianjin, Guangdong, Henan Pool C: Shanghai, Shandong, Heibei, Zhejiang Pool D: Jiangsu, Liaoning, Sichuan, Yunnan
Bold are the teams I expect to advance. Shandong and Zhejiang will be fighting for the last spot in Pool C. I'm not familiar with the new players Zhejiang signed, but maybe they could push Shandong out of the running.

I know they wanted to have more time to prepare for Tokyo, but that's A LOT of extra time. Especially considering that Lang Ping does not even take VNL seriously. Each NT have their own plans and schedule for preparation for next season. Of course, they are not going to disclose the reasons and details of their strategy to the outside world and allow opposing teams a leg-up to develop counter measures against them. So however odd or unusually long the gap is between the end of the Chinese league and the start of the NT season, it is no accident and there are reasons for that which we are not privy to.

Regarding the Chinese NT, I think the backup opposite and 3rd middle position is still undecided. After the season ends there is going to be some tough training in order to find out the suitable options.

Tatyana Kosheleva (Russia) who is playing for the Guangdong Evergrande has a youtube channel (subtitles available). She has uploaded a few videos about her transition to China as well as what it's like getting ready to play for the league. Here you can get an insight and a bit of behind the scenes of the Chinese League from her vlogs.
