Penfield vs Rush was wild, whoever earlier said someone was the best junior in the state is a clown, Rush's primary hitter is a junior and insane, plays A1 and should be able to pick almost any D1 college of his choosing to play at. My fault, I meant that the Suffern outside has the most potential. Needs to be exposed to some higher level coaching, play, weight room, etc. His athleticism and hitting ability are there, but still needs to grasp some of the more technical side of the game before his true potential can come out. I believe he has only been playing for a little over 2 years (with no club experience). I thought Joshua Gregg was a sophomore. Didn't realize that he was a young 2021 playing 15's last club season with Hot Shots. Certainly a better all around player as it currently stands.

Tonight's recap (Wednesday 11/6)
Lets just say it was a pretty underwhelming night. Majority of the matches were supposed to be competitive, but most lasted 3 sets.
Section 2 Division 1 Semifinals - Despite the excitement in the area, the games were pretty uncompetitive. In what was supposed to be a thriller, #2 Bethlehem played great and took advantage of an off night by #3 Columbia and took the match in 3 sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-21). #1 Shen used a strong serve-receive to cruise by #4 Saratoga Springs in straight sets (25-10, 25-16, 25-16). Shen takes on Bethlehem for the title on Friday night. Winner advances to play Suffern in the regional semifinal.
Section 3 Division 1 Semifinals (#1 of 2) - As expected, Cicero-North Syracuse eliminates Fayetteville-Manlius in 3 (25-14, 25-22, 25-14). Pepperdine commit Anderson Fuller sees his high school career come to a disappointing end. F-M had not found a way to be competitive all year and finishes with a 7-9 record. CNS awaits the winner of Liverpool/Baldwinsville on Saturday night at Jamesville-DeWitt for the Section 3 D1 title.
Section 3 Division 2 Semifinal - #2 Oswego cruises by #3 Central Square in 3 (25-14, 25-15, 25-18) to advance to the Section 3 D2 Title game on Saturday 11/9 vs. Jamesville-Dewitt. J-D had a bye to the finals (not all teams qualified, and most Section 3 D2 teams play in the winter).
Section 8 Division 2 - See bracket. No upsets.
Tomorrow's Schedule Only one match - Section 3 D1 Semifinal (#2) - #2 Liverpool vs. #3 Baldwinsville Slow day tomorrow leads into an action packed Friday-Saturday, and by the end of the night Saturday, we'll have 6 sectional champions crowned, with all other sections down to their championship matches.
Only 54 boys volleyball teams remain in the state of New York.

Thursday 11/7 Recap Section 3 D1 Semifinal (#2 of 2)
In the only night of the match, Liverpool took down Baldwinsville in 5 sets in the 2nd Section 3 Division 2 Semifinal (25-14, 30-32, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13). They will take on Cicero-North Syracuse in the final Saturday night at Jamesville-DeWitt. Really hard to see CNS losing that one.
The Section 2 D1 and D2 Championship matches are tomorrow night. Shenendehowa (19-0) takes on Bethlehem (14-4) for the D1 title. Shen won both regular season meetings, but were missing their OH #1 and a middle for the semifinal game (Wednesday), don't know their status for tomorrow. Burnt Hills (14-2) will walk over CBA (0-16) for the D2 title, with only 2 Section 2 D1 teams playing in the fall season, both received a bye to the final.
In Section 6 Division 1, #1 Clarence (15-1) will take on #4 Frontier (6-11) and #2 Orchard Park (16-2) will take on #6 Lancaster (5-12) in the D1 Semifinals. Clarence and Orchard Park are big favorites, and won all of the regular season meetings.
In Section 8 Division 1, #1 Plainview JFK (15-1) will take on #4 Syosset (6-10) and #2 Massapequa (14-2) will take on #3 Port Washington (11-5). Plainview JFK with the easier path to the final, but it looks like we’re headed towards a Plainview JFK-Massapequa showdown in the finals.
In Section 11 Division 1, #1 Sachem North (15-0) hosts #5 Northport (11-4) and #3 Lindenhurst (13-2) hosts #7 Smithtown West (10-5) in the semifinals. Sachem North should take care of business, Smithtown West has a decent chance to pull another upset and advance to the final.
Huge day for Division 1 tomorrow. D1 Semifinals in Sections 6, 8, and 11. Both Championships in Section 2. Section 5 Semifinals are set for Saturday.
Tomorrow (Friday 11/8) Section 2 D1 Championship Section 2 D2 Championship Section 6 D1 Semifinals Section 8 D1 Semifinals Section 11 D1 Semifinals
We are down to 49 boys volleyball teams remaining in the state. 21 teams in Division 1 and 28 remaining in Division 2.

Friday 11/8 RecapSection 2 D1 Championship - Shen (20-0) over Bethlehem (14-5) in 3 (25-18, 25-18, 25-13). Shen didn't allow an opponent past 18 points in the sectional tournament, in a year where Section 2 was stronger than normal. Really impressive improvement from that group, especially from the club season. From what I saw in sectionals, much stronger serve-receive. Shen will take on Suffern on Friday 11/15 at 7:00pm in the Regional Semifinal at Suffern HS. Section 2 D2 Championship - Burnt Hills (15-2) over CBA (0-17) in 3 (25-10, 25-10, 25-17). CBA struggled as a first year program, but have room for potential. Burnt Hills should also compete at the state level, and have a pretty easy path to get there. Burnt Hills will take on Eastchester on Friday 11/15 at 5:00pm in the Regional Semifinals, also at Suffern HS. Section 6 D1 Semifinals - ***#2 Orchard Park (16-2) def #6 Lancaster (5-13) (3-0; 25-15, 25-18, 25-22) ***#1 Clarence (16-1) def #4 Frontier (6-12) (3-0; 26-24, 25-9, 25-19) Section 8 D1 Semifinals - ***#1 Plainview JFK (16-1) def #4 Syosset (6-11) (3-0; 25-16, 25-21, 25-16) ***#2 Massapequa (15-2) def #3 Port Washington (11-6) (Score Unreported) Section 11 D1 Semifinals - ***#1 Sachem North (16-0) def #5 Northport (10-5) (3-0; 25-21, 25-19, 25-20) ***#7 Smithtown West (11-5) def #3 Lindenhurst (3-1; 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-19) Here's the write up from the Section 2 matches. THE GAME IS GROWING!!! Bethlehem filled out half the gym with their student section tonight. Shen did not have one (believe their football team was playing in their sectional final at the same time). Was pretty cool to see, loudest environment I have ever seen in Section 2. Here's the writeup to tonight's matches. dailygazette.com/article/2019/11/08/shenendehowa-wins-fifth-straight-section-ii-division-1-boys-volleyball-title

In section 6 D1 final, Orchard Park will make quick work of Clarence by sweeping them. Clarence will not have an answer for Orchard Park’s studs Joe Nicometo, Hudson Harris, Ian Rauh and Nick Thomas. This team is solid.

Rush Henrietta vs McQuaid in a close sectional match. What is the deal with the Wickens injury? Harder to stay in the loop down on Long Island.

Saturday 11/9 Recap (Part 1)
WESTERN NY RECAP
Section V D1 Semifinals - #1 McQuaid def #5 Rush-Henrietta (3-1; 27-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21) #2 Fairport def #3 Victor (3-2; 28-26, 23-25, 25-17, 21-25, 15-12)
McQuaid will play Fairport in the Section V D1 Championship for the 2nd year in a row on Thursday 11/14, 8:00pm @ Webster Schroeder. McQuaid is looking for their first sectional championship game since 2015. Fairport will look to continue their state championship defense. Glad to hear that Wickens is back.
Section V D2 Semifinals - Class 2A - #1 Churchville-Chili def #4 Brockport (3-1) Class 2A - #2 Spencerport def #3 Canandaigua Academy (3-0; 25-19, 25-23, 26-24) Class 2B - #4 Pavilion/York def #1 School of the Arts (3-0; 25-12, 25-21, 25-21) Class 2B - #2 Midlakes/Waterloo def #3 North Rose-Wolcott (3-0; 25-11, 25-13, 25-20)
Churchville-Chili will take on Spencerport in the Division 2A Finals, and Midlakes/Waterloo will play Pavilion/York for the Division 2B Title. Both matches are Tuesday at Webster Schroeder. Winners of the 2 matches will play again Thursday before the McQuaid-Fairport game for the right to represent Section V in the regional. School of the Arts are the first #1 seed in the state to fall in sectional play this year.
Churchville-Chili-Spencerport will be a great match. Churchville and Grand Island (Sec. VI) could be heading on a collision course as they top two teams in the state look at playing each other in the regional. Midlakes/Waterloo should take of business Tuesday.
Section VI D2 Semifinals - Class 2A - #1 Grand Island def #4 West Seneca West (3-2; 23-25, 28-30, 26-24, 28-26, 15-8) Class 2A - #3 North Tonawanda def #7 Kenmore West (3-0; 25-15, 25-16, 25-17) Class 2B - #1 Eden def #4 Starpoint (3-0; 25-23, 25-22, 25-21) Class 2B - #2 West Seneca East def #3 Lake Shore (3-0; 25-12, 25-12, 20-25, 25-14)
Grand Island will play North Tonawanda in the Division 2A Finals, Tuesday at Lackawanna HS (5:30 PM) and Eden will take on West Seneca East, also at Lackawanna HS (7:30pm). Grand Island survived a scare from a young WSW team and came back to pull off the reverse sweep in 5, fending off match point. GI is possibly the best D2 team in the state, Churchville will have something to say about it in the regional, and no doubt Eden will give them a tough match if they both make it to Thursday.
Section III and VIII updates coming later.

Saturday 11/9 Recap (Part II)
CENTRAL NY AND LONG ISLAND ISLAND RECAP
Section 3 D1 Final #1 Cicero-North Syracuse def #2 Liverpool (3-0; 25-17,
Cicero-North Syracuse advances to the deepest D1 Central Regional I've ever seen. Every team in the D1 regional is undefeated. Section 3 has the bye this year so CNS will take on the winner of the Suffern-Shen on Saturday 11/16 at 7:00pm at Fayetteville-Manlius (Section 3). With how Shen has looked over the last 3-4 weeks, I would expect to get another CNS-Shen showdown in the regional final.
Section 3 D2 Final #1 Jamesville-DeWitt def #2 Oswego (3-1; 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 25-16)
Jamesville-DeWitt moves on to the Central Regional to take on the winner of the Burnt Hills-Eastchester regional semifinal on Saturday 11/16 at 5:00pm at Fayetteville-Manlius (Section 3). Burnt Hills should get through to the regional final.
Section 8 D2 Semifinals #1 Long Beach def #4 Roslyn (3-0; 25-18, 25-21, 25-12) #2 Bethpage def #3 Bellmore JFK (3-1; 23-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-19)
Long Beach and Bethpage will play for the Section VIII D2 title on Friday 11/15. They are playing the night before the Long Island Championship/Regional Final game. Bellmore JFK's state title defense comes to a close, they were certainly overrated this year in the state rankings, and were never going to be much of a factor at the state level.
I'll try and put together a little preview before each of the regionals. Central Region on Wednesday, Far West on Friday, Long Island on Saturday (maybe, will be tough with the Section 8 finals Friday night).

I think Smithtown has a decent chance to knock off Sachem North in the Suffolk Finals tonight. They can neutralize a lot of Sachem’s strengths with their style of play and will keep the ball up. I’ll try to give updates here. Westhampton should win D2.
