That, and there will probably be a pretty good following of USD fans that make the trip; it's an easy direct flight from Lindbergh Field. Lots of San Diegans regularly make the trip to Hawaii, and they acclimate easily and quickly, practically a second home environment for them. So, I'm going with USD, probably in four but could easily go five. The NCAA website lists USD's average attendance this year as 621. Is that accurate? If so, will all 621 make the trip to Hawaii?

No, don't expect that many. But USD fans do travel to Hawaii, I always see a strong showing when they play here. That, and lots of family, friend, and work relationships between San Diego and Hawaii. The Hawaii-San Diego connected on island tend to show up for a USD match. Between the two teams, USD will feel most at home and at match start likely to have the larger support contingent. The Wahine only fans will tend to arrive well after the WSU-USD match starts. At match start, I'd expect a couple of thousand attendance, and the USD fans to be predominant among them. If the match goes long, the crowd will grow well past 6,000 before it wraps up, and they'll tend to sit on their hands until they figure out the team they want to cheer for; usually the team they feel most connected to, or the underdog they prefer to face the next night. I'm hoping for a long match, and to see how the growing crowd impacts both teams in a set four and five. If Hawaii makes it to round 2, it will likely be a full and loud house from the start of the match.

Are you suggesting that people from San Diego will be more motivated by an excuse to go to Hawaii in December than people in Pullman (or Washington State in general) will be? That's -- pretty dang amazing reasoning.

I've spent lots of time working and living in the States of Washington and Idaho, and know just how much WSU and their fan's feel rewarded getting to play in Hawaii for round 1, in December! In a way though, that can work against the team. They'll want to enjoy their trip too, but it has to be all business if they are to stay focused. Hawaii's natural beauty, beaches, warm days, good food, welcoming people, and daily rainbows, can be distracting. I also spent many years living and working in many SOCAL locations, mostly in San Diego. I'm sure there are more San Diegans with connections to the islands, than probably the total traveling population of Pullman.

It appears that The PAC 12 homers on this thread haven’t seen San Diego play this season. Or perhaps have seen WSU play.

However, despite that, I really hope WSU wins and then wins again, just so I can make fun of you. (I originally said something about making fun of the Hawai'i fans like BiK, but then I realized a) there's no one like BiK, and b) it's actually just BiK I want to make fun of.)

However, despite that, I really hope WSU wins and then wins again, just so I can make fun of the Hawai'i fans who were so afraid of San Diego that they wanted to face WSU instead. Hawaii will be hard to beat at home this weekend, regardless of who they play but San Diego’s style of offense would be a cause for concern. They run a quick attack with multiple attackers and their setter is very good. Don’t get me wrong, Wazzu is good too but their offense is less complicated than USD’s and if Hawaii passes well, their active middles could disrupt the Cougars stellar blocking. There is some familiarity with San Diego that could be a benefit to both the Wahine and Toreros whereas the SSC will be a new experience for the Cougars. There will be no easy match in this sub regional. Btw. I annoyed pdub/Bofa so much in 2004 that when Hawaii lost to Wisconsin in the Regional Semi Finals in Madison in 2004, Bofa said that he hoped Hawaii’s lost hurt a lot. I was like, the loss certainly sucks but it’s Christmas soon. 😂

If Frohling is on, I could see her giving the WSU left sides a lot of problems. I think USD wins this one in 3 or 4. She actually is the biggest threat for Hawaii too because we got those short gals on the outside and Frohling hits harder than most of the players I've seen this year.
Here's a clip of her hardest hit I've seen this year. Has that Plummer kind of sound:

But I can assure you that she's not the hardest hitter WSU has faced this season.
IMO this game is a toss up bc, as noblesol said, both teams can be very, very good and both teams can be not good.

OK, congratulations folks. You successfully derailed the conversation away from the original issue. When BiK said that the "PAC-12 homers" hadn't seen San Diego this year, he seems to have forgotten that San Diego played a couple of PAC-12 teams this year already. Since that made his statement untenable, the conversation immediately shifted to something that was purely a matter of opinion, whether the 3-1 defeat of San Diego by Washington was in fact "easily" accomplished or whether it difficult. I fell into the trap. For a while. Congrats. Now, back to WSU and San Diego (who we have seen play....). The irony here is palpable (pot-kettle/kettle-pot prima facie evidence)! Cringeworthy.
