Its good that all the events are in the same locations, so they can keep building local audiences, but the "slow, steady growth model" is really emphasizing the slow. Since the real re-launch (when the AVP went from 2 to 7) the tour has grown one event in 8 years. Maybe a stop or two will be added later

Can only hope the snail's pace means they are gearing up to add 3-5 stops in Florida rather than 1 more occasionally somewhere random....

Seems like 2020 would have been a good year to add an event to take advantage of the Olympic year publicity. There is an available weekend in late August with no FIVB conflicts.
Manhattan Beach conflicts with the Vienna Major this year, and Hermosa overlaps with the Olympics, but otherwise no major conflicts. Austin should have a stronger field as it’s now the week after Itapema.

"We love the state of Florida and the entire beach community there! Although we won’t be there in 2020, we hope to return in the near future."

I think it’s safe to say there is no growth. I guess I will just be happy we still have a avp even though we only have 8 events and no Florida ones 😔🤷♂️

As mentioned this year is the Olympics, which the AVP has never been able to capitalize on and right after that there will be: 1) A lot of attention if US does well 2) Partner changes which are always awesome 3) Weekends when good US pairs will play AVP as opposed to FIVB. Hard to criticize a guy for not going further into the red but seems like this would have been the year to doubledown if ever

Add, like someone else said, San Diego, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara and make some money there, if that is possible. I cannot believe there is no model that would allow stops and revenue at those locales, but just "hope as a strategy" at this point...Hell, throw in a farmers market, wine-tasting or WHATEVER the hell it takes to break even and get this thing moving! LOL

I actually expressed this idea to Donald Sun (not that he would actually listen to me, but he is always chatting up fans and at least seems to be genuinely interested in things from a spectator's perspective). Not sure if there is bad blood between he and Al B, but maybe hire him (or use him as an independent contractor), as someone with a lot of Florida connections, to see if a Florida tour stop could be added? Sure seems like Al B would have the necessary connections to make it happen?
My general thought is exactly the same as it always has been - if more folks actually attended these tournaments in person, then more tour stops would be added. I'm glad the tour is sticking around and appears to be viable, but I'm sure that it would make no financial sense to add more stops in places we would all love to see if the demand simply is not there. I am also very glad to see that they will hold the NYC tournament at Gansevoort Peninsula again - it sure was a great location from a fan's perspective!

Hard to criticize a guy for not going further into the red I have an interesting anecdote that might illustrate why a guy might hold onto a brand even if it is running in the red. I know a guy who bought the rights for almost zero for Iron Man in parts of Asia. Developed that market, had great attendance and promotion, and grew the brand. A parent corporation that owns Iron Man decides to go public. They want the rights back for those regions... name your price sort of deal given the boost it makes to their metrics for the public offering. Happy ending. Serendipitous you say? Yep, but sometimes investments are that way. You have two dogs for every success, or if you're in Silicon Valley, you're happy with 1 in 10, because that 1 can be crazy money. None of us really knows whether Donald Sun's investment will continue to bleed him, or whether by some luck a media company will come along in 2022 and have a reason to pay Sun a lot of money for the brand.

Don’t forget tax laws. If you have taxable income from “winners “ , you can write losses from “losers” off to lower your tax burden . With the Government (read taxpayers) subsidizing your losing venture to assist it’s launch.

Do I read it correct that NYC overlaps with a 4* in Moscow?
