My daughter and I ran into Kevin while shopping in Boulder (post CU match). He noticed she was wearing a Crossroads hoodie and said to her "I hope you play volleyball!" To which she replied yes and explained she was home for fall break, resting after a solid freshman season and beginning her training for indoor track and field. We asked if he had player at Stanford (he was in Card gear) and he said yeah, Kathryn Plummer. We smiled and laughed a bit, explaining we knew quite well who she was, and that led to a conversation about how she was doing, how the missed matches had changed her opportunity to earn AVCA awards, their future travel plans, the joys and aches of being in sports, travel in the PAC 12 (they were headed to the Palouse) and more.
He was a delightful man. After a bit he took off to find his wife and we took off to Lululemon... it was very nice encounter and for that, I am grateful.

Wow what a great read... low key just cried haha Me too. What commitment to the sport and to her goals. Congrats to the Plummer family, sounds like they raised a young lady who goes after what she wants with 100% commitment.

Wish it was more accessible for lower income families. In a perfect world there'd be some sort of club scholarship fund for promising athletes who arent as well off financially but have D1 potential. Especially considering how volleyball relies more heavily on raw athleticism than a lot of sports. Perhaps you might be interested in learning of the Starling's volleyball clubs across the country. They accept donations. www.starlings.org/ Wow great to see this. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the post. This was also shared by sbilo in Future for Stanford thread. I was thinking that it should deserve it's own thread and am glad that it has.
Great story! I had a teary eyes just reading through Kevin's experiences as a dad. He and his wife must be so proud of their kids. I can't believe her college career will be over soon, but that would open up a new chapter to be explored. Go Kathryne!

I wish more volleyball parents are like that. I mean yes, some of them do strongly support their kids, but their...shall we say attitude and demeanor is rather poor and abrasive.

^ why not, she would be a dream Opposite, and backup setter in a pinch. However since there is more money in being a terminal OH, I would expect that would be her first contract. Great Read! A little of topic, but is it still true OHs are the highest paid? The two best players in the world; Egonu and Boskovic are Opps. I wonder where their pay falls. I hope we get to see Plummer play long into the future
