The Olympic Year is HERE! Let's start things off by discussing the 2020 VNL rosters by position.
For the purpose of clarity please note the following:
1. The following Middle Blockers are listed on the USWNT roster homepage and thus MUST be considered in the above poll: Adams, Akinradewo-Gunderson, Alhassan, Dixon, Ogbogu, Rettke, Rosenthal, Tapp and Washington.
2. The remaining names listed are some of the top players currently playing professionally over seas, have already played some with the national team, or are the top talent in the NCAA that are at least juniors or seniors during this current year: Butler, Grant, Hord, Mohler, Pitman, A. Rolfzen, Speech, Stafford and Stivrins.
* = Please if you feel the need to select another not listed player please do so accompanied by an explanation. I would ask that for clarity's sake that you all refrain from tossing in players just because they play for your favorite school or just because you "like" them. That doesn't serve the purpose of this thread at all.
Please vote for SEVEN to EIGHT players and post why you choose who you did.
Thanks friends!

The two psu MBs ( gray and hord) belong on here over some of these (stafford, strivens, mohler etc) We shall see if they attend the try-outs in February or get invited to train. I take it you are a PSU guru?

The two psu MBs ( gray and hord) belong on here over some of these (stafford, strivens, mohler etc) They are both sophomores this year so that is why I didn't include them yet. To be fair Hord is on the predicted first team AA on Shhhhhhhhh's predictions thread while Gray isn't. So feel free to place a vote in the "other" category if you must. I don't follow NCAA ball a ton but I plan to next season. So time will tell if these two ladies catch Karch's eye.

QUICK UPDATE!
Please vote based on which players you would choose for the roster! I really need to edit the poll question but that requires deleting the poll and retyping all of those names.....which I don't wanna do.
Also please cast ALL of your allotted votes!

The two psu MBs ( gray and hord) belong on here over some of these (stafford, strivens, mohler etc) They both put up huge offensive numbers. Do either of them run slides? I can't remember seeing it.

Ogbogu, Washington and Rettke are probably the middles of the future. Foluke is a bit long in the tooth and Dixon is just too prone to injury. Having said that, the VNL roster will probably look a lot like the Tokyo roster. I would expect Foluke and Dixon to be in Tokyo.

This tournament will be very important to two comebacking senior members Foluke and Rachael. I hope they find their groove and earn their slots to Tokyo with Chiaka!

Who is better in Italy now? Washington or Alhassan?

Who is better in Italy now? Washington or Alhassan? They are both doing well for their respective teams. Washington's team is ranked 2nd and Alhassan's is ranked 13th. In my opinion Alhassan's setter Marta Bechis is much better than Washington's setter Alessia Orro. Orro's placement is all over the place but her passing unit is better than Bechis's. That is to be expected as Busto has been in A1 for a while and Caserta is newly promoted from Serie A2.

Again....let me stress that while the 8 you select should be in contention for an Olympic roster spot....this thread isn't strictly about who you would want to see in the OG. I chose veterans and several new talented players who I would want to see get some international court time. Even though it's an Olympic year....development of new talent is crucial.
Karch shocked all of us last season by leaving the vets at home in the beginning and even cutting some directly before the tournament. More departed later on. It needed to happen after the disaster that was the 2018 WCH.

The first 5 picks were easy. Chiaka, Foluke, Dixon, Washington and Rettke.
I really, really want to see more of Brionne Butler with non-Texas Longhorns passing and setting. I also picked Ronika Stone, because I think she's a phenomenal talent, and Rachael Adams because I never saw her last year and want to see where she is at relative to the others.

I think a run with Foluke, Stivrins, Rettke and Butler in the first three weeks of the tournament would be sexy! That is one physical MB line-up.
I honestly don't see Adams breaking through to the top three. She has taken time off but will she return to form? Even in top shape she isn't as good as Foluke.
I don't see both of them getting their starting spots back. Maaaaybe one.

I went back and forth between Stivrins, Stone, and Adams. Not with Butler, though. Every time I have watched her I have thought, "My God, that woman's leaping ability is superhuman."
I would be quite happy being wrong and having Stivrins there instead of Adams.
