I hope its at least by the first week of January. The new coach has to get going. There will be a lot to do in the spring and she will want to start recruiting.

At the very least, the new coach will want to talk to their current team before going public with the announcement (unless it's someone with the personal skills of Aird). Since players are all back home, thus the delay.

If you are suggesting they’ll wait to announce until students are back in school, I’ll just say that a good percentage of hires happen over break, and coaches call players. I’ll bet you whatever you want this hire happens well before that |

If they're hiring a head coach from another school, that coach will wait until they've talked to their players before having the school announce it. Any reasonable coach isn't going to spring this on their players over the holiday. Most usually wait until they can talk to the team together in person, but not all do. Most want to avoid facetime or Skype with just one or a few players because that opens the possibility that other players will hear the news indirectly. There is absolutely no rush to this. For example, if the announcement isn't until Jan 6 when most athletes return to campus (most schools start spring semester on the 13th), it doesn't hurt anything. Most coaches take vacation after the convention, which just ended, anyway so they can recover before gearing up for spring tourney recruiting and organizing spring practice. |

Many announcements come between Christmas and New Years. Some do, others come the Monday after New Years. Just depends on what's happening behind the scenes, e.g. terms negotiation, notifying relevant stakeholders (school admins, players, lawyers and agents taking time off, etc.). |

In a perfect world all good people would want to meet with students in person, but you’re talking about 3 weeks, staffs have to be hired, family moved....... coaches do take vacations and shut it down over break, but those are coaches who aren’t hiring staffs, moving families...... we also haven’t mentioned that there are some VERY good recruits heading to OSU and are anxious if not itchy. I guarantee coaches are actively inquiring About those kids,You’re describing a perfect world, and it’s easy for you to say “what’s the hurry”. For the coach who has A LOT of work to do personally and professionally and the kids committed in 20,21 are very anxious, it’s a really big deal. |
