Where is David, my favorite UCLA poster boy?
I miss his reports, stats and repartee. I know UCLA is experiencing injuries and suffering some losses, BUT I wonder if David & UCLA is playing possum and laying low until tournament time. I've learned "never to turn your back on UCLA" because they're sneaky and could surprise you. We miss you David. Please write!

I'm still here. Nothing much to post.
Way too many injuries. Seems we have a different lineup every match. Morrow is supposed to be back sometime in February. When (if??) everyone get healthy, we will be fine.
BruinWalker can give you more info. He went all the way to Provo to watch the double-debacle against your alma mater.
Looking forward to the UCLA-Pepperdine match Feb. 12 at Pauley.

Hey David, Glad to hear you're still around, but don't lay back just because UCLA is hurting. I enjoy your observations and comments of the play of other teams as well. I'll see you there at the Pep-UCLA match. Later Dude.

I did go to Provo last weekend. What I saw was a UCLA team without a go-to guy and lack of team chemestry. Coach Scates had a different line-up for both games. During the third game of Saturday match-up with BYU, coach Scates replaced Nelson with Sepulveda, unfortunately it didn't change the outcome. Scheftic and Vince played significant minutes. I'm hoping that the addition of McKinney and a healthy Morrow and Jagoda, helps this team qualify for the MPSF tourney. I'm going to watch Hawaii and LBSU this week hope to see you there. I'll be at the Pepp. vs. UCLA match as well.

Hey Bruinwalker,
David has passed the mantle of UCLA info to you, and it appears from your postings, you'll do a good job.
It's a shame that UCLA is hurting right now, but that's life in sports. I'm sure they'll put together a good team in time for the tournament...I NEVER count UCLA out.
Keep us up-to-date on UCLA's developments, will you? I enjoy bantering with knowledgeable volleyball fans who can appreciate ALL players, and not just their own team. Let me know what you think of Hawaii vs Long Beach after their match. I'm going to try to be there myself. It should be a good one...Hawaii will prevail though.

I am going to be travelling a lot for the next 6 weeks. So, the Pepperdine on the match on 2/12 is probably the only match I will get to see until after Spring Break (slim chance I will make the 2/26 match vs. LaVerne or the 3/12 match vs. Concordia). Unfortunately, I am going to miss the USC match on 2/15 and both Hawaii matches on 3/14&15.
What are your thoughts on Acosta? Looking at the stats from the BYU matches, he didn't seem to be much of a factor. I thought he was going to become the "go-to" hitter this year.

David, My view on Acosta is that he must feel awfully lonely being the main "go to" guy. Many teams have several "go to" hitters to spread out the wealth of kills, and responsibility of leading the team. With many key players hurt, I'm sure my beloved BYU (and other teams) key their defense to stop him, which causes the rest of the team to "step up" or suffer the consequences. There are many games left, so I'm not counting out UCLA. Their "licking their wounds" while trying to get healthy by the tournament. They may surprise a lot of people in the end. We'll see. I always like to see UCLA fighting to win...it's a tradition.

Just an observation here – UCI is playing better this year than ever before. They are mostly a veteran team so I am giving a lot of the credit to Speraw.
UCLA on the other hand is suffering this year. How much of that to you attribute to the injured team vs coaching changes?
