Yea but their kid will play at Stanford. Nobody wants to be that close to EPA. He'll stay in Nebraska, where life is good. We'll probably have a men's program by then. Gentrification, homes in EPA are a million +

I think Cook can probably do what he wants. He's earned it. But.... well, in his recent interview, he was asked about retiring, and he said that he is more excited than ever about coaching. He lives for it. Dare I say, under different circumstances, he'd probably do it for free. This was a conversation earlier this year about Rose, Cook, and when they'll retire. Most people thought Cook would want to spend some time with the 2021 recruiting class, maybe even see those recruits through at least most of their careers. BTW, his Contract, which all-in is close to three quarters of a million, runs through December, 2022.. which takes him through 2 years of his 2021 recruits.

I remember when Rockwell getting hired as assistant at Penn State was definite proof that Rose was about to retire so she could be the replacement. Well, there is a bit more to that story...

I think this is silly Cook has already stated he will be the coach for the entire time of the 2021 class. Tyler has been working w/Nebraska ever since he left, and is the coach of the setters, using Kelly as his medium for when he can't be there. Tyler probably felt guilty having left Nebraska after 1 yr, knows his other job is about to be a lot less time requirement, knows the short visits/teaching clinics he has been doing isn't cutting it, as neither of the two setters seemed to have progressed much last year, and offered to make it full time to pick up his remaining 2 yrs. The title is probably so it isn't seen as a demotion on his resume. I absolutely do not think any of the coaching staff currently gets the team post Cook.
I do think it is a great news story on Tylers return. He is a good coach, and his attention is dearly needed. We need superstar setters, and some more refinement at the MB position. Let Cook spend all his time on OHs, Reyes on DS/L & the 6th rotation players playing in serve receive & floor defense.

This hiring is a smart move by Cook and Nebraska for many reasons. I think it is especially important for future Nebraska recruits. Recruits now know who will be coaching them if and when Cook retires. Also, as an Illini/Chris Tamas fan, I am jubilant!

Is this a statement of how dysfunctional USAV is?

Hildebrand needs some seasoning and Cook can provide that for him. If he is indeed Cook's successor then 3-4 years of working with Cook will not be a bad thing.

I do think this is a huge plus for NE this coming year with the final four in Omaha.

Disclaimer- I have no knowledge of Cook's long term Nebraska plans and couldn't care less when he leaves. If Hildebrand is the heir apparent and you think the transition will be made within a year, why is this some rockstar hire? Hildebrand's history is pretty beach centric. He has never managed his own collegiate indoor program. Now, I'm not passing any judgment on Cook wanting to specifically groom Hildebrand for the job, but the thought that all of this is going to come to pass within a year and Cook and the Nebraska administration is going to hand the keys to the kingdom over under these circumstances is a bit hard to believe. Cook isn't retiring anytime soon, but I do think he wants Tyler to be his successor. He is very much a rockstar. The conventional wisdom was always, "Cook wants his successor to have been a D-I head coach to prove they can run a program". Was that ever true or just a rumor? Or does Tyler still have to be a D-I head coach somewhere?

Hildebrand will never be the head coach at Nebraska................USC will come calling. They named him Associate Head Coach. A huge part of the pitch to bring him back to Lincoln was from other people who had raised children here. He's come back here several times for mini clinics and just to hang with Cook and the staff. His official statement directly thanked the Athletic Director. None of this says "temporary assistant job." It screams permanence.
