When is the last time an SEC coach making good money and not on the hot seat (well, SEC and good money are sort of redundant) left the SEC for the PAC? Ever? The irony here is that the SEC just took USC's coach, for more money, and you think NOW USC will outspend an SEC school to hire its coach away? Bottom line is the pecking order for athletics coaches has the SEC on the top, then a small gap to the B1G (since the B1G picked up the NY TV market with Rutgers), then a large gap to the PAC, ACC, Big 12 (except for OK and TX) and everyone else. The PAC TV contract does not generate enough revenue to enable that money to trickle down from football and basketball and hire expensive coaches for the non-revenue sports... PERIOD. Heck, even for the revenue sports, where investing in a top-top coach would actually MAKE money, the PAC will not spend. The PAC has become, except for Stanford and its $28B endownment, and somewhat Oregon with the Nike money, a third rate conference in terms of athletics expenditures. Generally agree, though even Stanford isn't really competitive in the revenue sports. Football coach David Shaw's salary is reportedly $4.6 million, which sounds like a lot but would rank seventh in the SEC last year (and Ed Orgeron just got a raise, so really, eighth). It would also be seventh in the Big 10 (and it will be eighth as soon as Ryan Day gets his raise--Ohio State just can't be 22nd in salary for its football coach). As for men's basketball, I couldn't find the salary of coach Jerod Haase, but given that he was making $1 million at his previous stop at UAB, I doubt it's a nationally competitive salary. Another thing - a school's general endowment doesn't necessarily track athletic department spending - it's not just a bottomless fund or anything and everything. Not that Stanford athletics isn't well-funded, but that's not simply the result of the university's endowment. There are schools with richer athletic departments that have far smaller general endowments.

It's a knock on USC taking so long to do this, and that given their history they could actually screw up and hire someone even worse than Kelli Tennant.

LOL! This made me spit my ice cream. Literally. Also, I'm not sure you know what it means when you put words in quotes. Usually, it's when the words in the quotes are meant to mean something other than what they literally mean like when you say some politician is stating a "fact" when in reality, he's really stating either a lie, a myth, or some opinion, all not grounded in fact. That's why you put "fact" in quotes. So, when you say "revised poll," I don't know what it means. LOL!
