What makes people think USC won't do what many Pac-12 schools (UW, UO, and ASU) have done, which is to promote from within? J.J. Van Niel was associate head coach at Utah and USC.

USC fans... the list that is posted here is unrealistic. How about this list: Morrison, Nolan, Mansfield, Mansfield (one LMU one Stanford asst), Van Niel, Sunahara, Alvey (I think this is the most likely considering the AD), Hampton-Keith, Wong, Rosenthal, Carlston Jason Mansfield has been assistant coach at first Illinois and now Washington, since leaving Stanford several years ago... wondering when someone will pick him up as HC. I think he would be good. But USC seems unlikely to hire a coach with no HC resume.

The last two seasons have been a train wreck and JJ is associated with that b. That would be a worse hire than Crouch initially was. They are trying to do better, not worse.

Would any school come close to Elliots Salary? He has to be either number 1 or 2 when it comes to highest paid coaches Cook and Elliott are probably the two highest paid I would think. I know all that data is available but not going to track it down. I think if the USA were to win the Olympic gold in women's volleyball and there were some high profile NCAA HC jobs that opened up after 2020 season someone would throw huge coin at Karch. John Cook’s base salary is $675,000

What makes you think it was his fault? He wasn't the one calling the shots. Utah and USC thought enough of him to pay him to be associate head coach. Couch was not fired, but took the money and ran. Besides, they could probably get him for half what it would take to lure Keegan Cook or another "name" head coach away.

Utah was fine with JJ there. USC admin is unlikely to keep anyone associated with the last two head coaches. Too much history/animosity with the Haley staffs. Too poor results with the Crouch staff. While JJ may not be responsible, he is, at best, complicit.

Cook I think has a possible of adding another $100,000 if he meets some goals. I think I remember seeing $50,000 for a NC.
