So, in the VNL, they're not switching sides, which is kind of a stretch when it comes to health protocols (I'm no expert but what's the point of the masking, testing, and best practices, etc. when you're indoors with everybody else basically). This changes a lot for momentum and just mental game in my opinion.
Are they going to do the same thing at the Olympics? Has there been any statement about this? Have there been any other protocols that have been announced? I just saw recently that it's currently 50% spectators, which is better than I thought.

Yeah, I'm sure FIVB is listening to you (hint: I'm being sarcastic). But on the actual point, yes, I agree switching sides is just fine. But then, I'm not the one making the call on this.

No one, anywhere is switching sides. That should be least of our worries. I just hope they have fans in the arena; or are the least a DJ and a light show!

just saw an article on the espn.com that said that capacity at olympic venues will be capped at 50%
so in theory there will be fans at vb matches

Granted, I’m not a public health expert, but I also don’t really see the need to avoid switching sides. But, it’s not just the players, it’s also all of the staff and personnel they’re trying to distance from right? I also think you need less support staff by not switching sides because you don’t have to clean and wipe stuff down. I’m just not sure.

It's part of strategy and mental game of the team.

Granted, I'm not a volleyball expert, but no one really cares about switching sides anymore. it's an archaic rule that doesn't even matter, especially in the deciding set.

Look, at the end of the day, if they switch sides, great. If they don't, fine. There are bigger things to worry about right now. Like whether there will be a cluster of new infections developing at the Olympics and volleyball specifically. The last thing I want to see is some NT player getting infected and forcing not only her to stop playing but also forcing her whole team out of the tournament or even derailing the whole event. That is what I am most worried about.
