No, that is not what we are talking about. We are talking about the law, and in the US, marriage under the law is not a religious matter. For convenience, the law typically allows religious marriages to also count as legal marriages, but they are actually two separate things. I do not accept that religious people get to claim marriage as their own intellectual property just because they want to set the rules about what is and is not a marriage. You don't actually disagree, you are just being obtuse and playing semantics because you want a word to mean what you want it to mean and not what somebody else wants it to mean. I don't care what you call it. One is religious and one is not. Remember the original context for my post. Someone said; "Gender? Marriage is between a man and a woman. Kinda obvious. Trashing a holy institution is lame". Civil marriage is not necessarily religious marriage, despite the legal aspects that allow ceremonies. Nobody gets to tell me that I’m not really married just because I chose a civil ceremony at a government building. It’s insulting. I am married. I don’t care if anyone thinks that’s trashing a religious tradition. That just reeks of arrogance.

It is a human institution that religions have co-opted and attempted to assert control over (just like so many other things). That is very much what I really believe. And I explicitly rejected (and reject) the attempt to claim marriage in the name of religion, including in the post you referenced. The entire thread is about legal marriage in the US (and originally specifically about the legal status of interracial marriages). WTF, dude, right back. You are confusing the hell out of me by violently agreeing and getting really pissed off about it. I don't think you've read and understood anything I've said. It's kind of bizarre.

I don’t care if anyone thinks that’s trashing a religious tradition. That just reeks of arrogance. I completely agree. That is why I responded to that post the way I did. One thing for sure is people have really strong feelings on the subject and there are some trigger words that set them off. I used the term marriage for the private (possibly religious) aspect of a union as different from the legal aspect, which I deemed a civil union. Feel free to use different terms, I was just trying to be clear on the difference between the two concepts. Of course you are legally "married" (choose your term), and you are also privately married in whatever other manner you decided (if you did, and also choose your term for whatever it was you did). Again, to be perfectly clear, I don't care about the private part of your marriage, that is up to you, your spouse and the group of people that do care and you care about. I do care about the legal aspect of your marriage, and that portion should be as legally religion, color and gender blind as possible. Looking forward to how THIS post is misinterpreted!

Senator Mike Braun said that interracial marriage should be left up to the states. Its 2022 and a Republican senator is saying this. Disgusting. Another gem: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) blames Ukraine for being invaded: "You see Ukraine just kept poking the bear, poking the bear, which is Russia, and Russia invaded. And the hard truth is ... there is no win for Ukraine here. Russia is being very successful in their invasion." Ok so from what I understand: interracial marriage is not cool when you're not a poiitician, but when you're actually a politician you can sleep with any asian spy you want ?
Makes sense indeed*

No marriage is a religious agreement between a man and a woman. Tye trick is the government should really no5 be involved. If ga6s or other want to play like they are normal call it something else... maybe niblick or Massie. Tgose words lost their meaning My favorite religious marriage was Job's. God kills his wife and all of his kids, but it's OK because he just gets a replacement wife! So, you hate God? How sad

Would you accept a legal union, which gave every last bit the same legal, tax, etc. benefits to the two consenting adults (federal and state) .... but which used a different word?
My guess is, you would not.
Therefore, it is more than just a practical matter. You want to control the word itself.

GOP is NOT lost. They've simply found their sweet-spot of racism. They know full well their republican base craves it. Hatred isn't illegal.
Only discrimination.
It's arguable whether the idea of making hatred illegal, is worse than the hatred in the first place!

JUST IN: Several Republicans say they are “upset” that Madison Cawthorn said his Republican colleagues have invited him to cocaine orgies. One Republican said people are now asking who is partaking in orgies. Kevin McCarthy plans to talk with Cawthorn about it, per politico. The answer is "definitely not Madison Cawthorn because he's the type of person who'd narc on the cocaine orgies which is why he never gets invited to them (also he'd be no fun at a cocaine orgy anyway)" Obviously I'm outing myself as a virgin for cocaine orgies.
But, is cocaine really the best drug for an orgy?

Marriage is a contractual relationship transferring a woman as property from her father to her new husband. It was. So?? Stuff changes. You advocate for radical changes, in fact.

Anyway, Job is still a really messed up story, where God takes this happy guy and tortures him (or allows him to be tortured, anyway), killing his kids, etc., all just to prove that he will honor God no matter what. And then God makes it all good again by giving him more kids, as if children are just assets that can be replaced and one is the same as another.

Reading the link you gave, it didn't say that God killed his wife either, but I'll try and find the actual scripture.

Follow the frickin' argument. They're denying that stuff changes and making an argument based on the institution of marriage as centuries old.
