I don't mind the football and baseball examples you mentioned, but the power play thing is very distracting. Totally distracting! I no longer really watch either the NFL or MLB so those examples are just me griping for the sake of griping, but this PP label is def annoying. Unnecessary technology and it's not like this is the tool that's magically going to make hockey popular or help individual players ascend into widespread notoriety. Even that glowing puck feature they had decades ago had more utility than this thing. And it's doubly ridiculous that they insist on labeling the player at the time of the game where there's the greatest amount of puck movement. Alright, I'll stop whining now. It kind of reminds me of when Fox used to highlight the puck back in the 1990s. I think this is even more annoying, though. The puck moves so fast on the power play that you probably won't have time to read the player's name even if you wanted to. Besides, identifying them is the play-by-play guy's job. Edit: I see you mentioned the glowing puck yourself. I missed that when I initially read your comment.

Yeah, my recollection was the glowing puck wasn't horrible but it obviously wasn't popular enough to endure. I think they're both attempts at making hockey more accessible to the mainstream but it's never gonna have that impact.

These days, the cameras are so good that it's just not necessary. Hockey will never be the most popular sport in the country, but the combination of better cameras and smart rule changes have significantly improved it from 20 years ago.

Stomach virus will affect Bruins lineup for game 1. Yes, 100% homer, but having watched this team play 82 games, I am amazed at the way they just figure out a way to win. They did not shy away from the regular season records which is a good sign for the post season. They will just keep rolling. Is some other team going to beat them 4 out of 7? I don't see it short of a Ken Dryden '71 performance from some goalie. 2nd round will be tough either way. I like Edmonton in the west. So you have faith that ullmark and swayman can deliver the Cup to Boston? I have my doubts. I guess Colorado winning it all with kuemper last season is exhibit a that you do not need a stud but it definitely helps.

I don't go to many games anymore but a long time fan. Best sporting event I will ever see was miracle on Manchester with the kings beating the oilers. Back in the 70s and 80s my brother and I drove the zamboni for the Kings. I actually made Roggin's Heroes ( if you are old and from LA, you would know what that is. Here is a clip of me on the ice at a kings game and making Roggin's Heroes...look at approx the 1;50 mark. Fred's quote on the weekend news was : Now you can get a bucket of chicken at the Forum.

La stunned Edmonton 4-3 in OT to take game 1. Minnesota and Dallas tied at 2 in 2 OT. If the first night of the playoffs is any indication it's going to be a long postseason.

Speaking as a Sharks fan we were/are in the same boat, just ahead of you. Unfortunately we never won the Cup, so Pittsburgh's ROI has been much better. Now we are so bad we have a shot at the #1 draft pick. Two or three more really lean years and several high draft picks, and just maybe we can turn things around. It will take some luck and good management. I worry about the management part more than anything. The Sharks are my Western Conference team. I've always liked them, and I had a long-time girlfriend from San Jose. It was bittersweet when they finally advanced to the Stanley Cup Final in 2016, and they were playing the one team that I couldn't root for them against. But yeah, it takes luck and good management. The Penguins were terrible and drafted in the top two from 2003-2006. They drafted Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marc-Andre Fleury and Jordan Staal with those picks, and that was the core of the 2009 Stanley Cup champion team. And of course, Crosby and Malkin were key to the other two titles. Here are the draft odds: Anaheim Ducks -- 18.5% Columbus Blue Jackets -- 13.5% Chicago Blackhawks -- 11.5% San Jose Sharks -- 9.5% Montreal Canadiens -- 8.5% Arizona Coyotes -- 7.5% Philadelphia Flyers -- 6.5% Washington Capitals -- 6.0% Detroit Red Wings -- 5.0% St. Louis Blues -- 3.5% Vancouver Canucks -- 3.0% Ottawa Senators* -- 2.5% Buffalo Sabres -- 2.0% Pittsburgh Penguins -- 1.5% The NHL announced changes to the Draft Lottery format on March 23, 2021. Among the changes instituted in 2022 is a limit on the total number of selections (10) a team participating in the Draft Lottery can "move up" in the event it wins one of the Lottery Draws. Thus, only the top 11 seeds will be eligible to receive the first overall selection in the 2023 NHL Draft. Pittsburgh's best result would be the third pick in the draft. BTW, congrats to the Ducks for tanking like pros.

On the subject of tanking how bout the fine that Dallas got assessed by the NBA? To their credit luka doncic and kyrie Irving wanted to play..but got benched by the higher ups.
As for Anaheim yes they lost 13 in a row to end the season but quite a few of them were by one goal and perhaps they were really that bad.
