Barry recently started following Kelly (Minn Recruiting Coordinator) and Minnesota. Maybe it’s nothing but it’s definitely something. You meant Kelsay? 😂 That’s an interesting development. yes 😭😭😭 I swear I’m illiterate sometimes

We’ve been talking around the edges of Barry transferring ever since Martinez Mundo committed. There is a question about who will be the libero this fall, but it was between Barnes and Martinez Mundo. Obviously we have no idea whether she transfers, but it will not be a shocker if she plays elsewhere next year.

I don't really see a world where Barry doesn't play. We likely need a DS for our Opp and our OH2 so she'll see playing time and likely grab the Lib jersey next year. Minny has Zeyneb likley stepping into the Lib jersey so I think the risks of leaving outweigh the positives of just potentially being a DS at another mid-top tier B1G school. Hopefully she's realizing this.

I agree with you on Lily having a good shot at getting regular rotations as an Illinois DS this fall. With Lily on the roster, I'd be surprised if Taylor or Laynie played six rotations this season, pleasantly surprised but surprised. Lily getting the nod to wear the libero jersey for two of five sets at Friday's game with DePaul signifies (to me at least) that she's next up behind Caroline, and ahead of Bianca in the DS depth chart. Folks on VT who've seen Christy Martinez-Mundo play predict that she'll be above Lily in the depth chart this fall. We haven't seen Kenzie Cogan play at the college level to be able to compare her with our other DS/L.

What are the rules regarding contacting players on another school’s roster who are not in the portal? With all the litigation are there any rules any more? Can Barry initiate contact with a recruiting coordinator from another school without entering the portal? Can a recruiting coordinator contact someone on another school’s roster who is not in the portal?

Is it a fair inference Barry contacted Minnesota, not the other way around, meaning it cannot be inferred Minnesota has any interest?

I am truly excited about Raegen joining the Illini!
Coach Tamas on Reilly: "The things that stood out in Raegen's process were her level of competitive fire and understanding of being a great teammate on a high-level team. She has been asked to do a lot on the teams that she's been on and excelled in anything she has been asked to do. She possesses several skill sets that will help us next year and will be a great addition to the Illini in her final year of eligibility!"
Why Illinois? "I chose Illinois because it truly feels like a family, and it is easy to tell that everyone here cares about you not only as an athlete, but as a person."

If nothing else, should Brooke not be able to play for whatever reason, we have a backup who can step in and play at a high level. This also gives Tamas the flexibility to use Brooke as a hitter. There is one serve receive rotation in which Brooke has to start at left front which has always given us fits. All three front row players are stacked left. Putting Raegan in to set for this serve receive rotation enables us to use Brooke as the left pin hitter in the rotation, turning the receive from a nightmare into a strength. The problem has been mitigated with Raina’s development as a back row attacker, but it has still been a problem.

Do we have any intel on who we are targeting for 2026? What do we think our needs are going to be with this class.

Do we have any intel on who we are targeting for 2026? What do we think our needs are going to be with this class. Here's our projected depth chart for 2026: If no one transfers out we're projected to have: 3 setters, 3 DS/L, 4 MB, and 4 pins. I'd like for us to get one pin hitter and one DS/L. You had previously said one pin hitter and one MB. Are you still of that mind?

I think we need a back up setter, MB & OH. I have not seen the 2 2025 OH recruits so cannot comment on their ability. Havent heard much talk about them. Are they BIG 10 quality.? There are some many good players out there, I wouodnt pass up a stud OH in the class if they want to come to ILL. I think if we have a great upcominng season we can create more interest.
