You could tell watching Cal that they lacked the experience on the bench. They won a few more matches (not that many) because Li was a huge upgrade and the lower half of the PAC was very weak, but they weren't that organized, didn't look prepared tactically, etc. As opposed to how well Cal looked in previous years? Anyway, since I am aware that recruiting and managing the staff and team are perhaps more important than in-season coaching, I don't really dispute that maybe she didn't have the experience Cal was looking for. But it was still a bit surprising she didn't get a position with the team that she was obviously very familiar with. Whatever. I suppose there are a lot of reasons that might have been the actual reasons, but I'm not going to guess at them. If I you go to Kristen Kelsey’s instagram, she is tagged in a post with a link to the podcast if you want to listen. She doesn’t go into detail, but does specifically say she was not asked back and why.

Cal Volleyball always has "the potential to do more than they do". It's kind of their thing. Not really. They've been missing key parts for the better part of a decade. You're thinking of UCLA.

This year we finally have all of the parts. The big issue seemed to be defense... but we got a strong transfer coming in as of last week. Add in a coach that seems immensely talented and hey, i'm feeling pretty good.

Seems like a very good hire for Cal, but it just (in my mind) reinforces the absurdity the death of the PAC12 conference.
The Atlantic Coast Conference.
Cal.
In the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Cal. As in California.
In the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Make it make sense.

As in California. In the Atlantic Coast Conference. Make it make sense. USC/UCLA/Washington/Oregon being valuable enough commodities to be invited to the Big Ten, while Cal was not. The same geographic boundaries that protected the PAC-12 and maybe made some of the members complacent and even arrogant regarding the possibilities of the conference breaking up also meant the choices were limited when that was no longer an option. Especially given Stanford and Cal’s academic prestige and their snobbery over an athletic affiliation with other schools that didn’t share at least a smidgen of their prestige, if the Big Ten wouldn’t have them - and it wouldn’t - the ACC was the only choice. It’s not like they were universally wanted there, either. The football schools of Clemson and FSU have indicated in legal filings they have no desire to be affiliated with the new members, or the ACC itself. This is what happens when there’s no effective overall governing body, and it’s every program out for themselves. But you know all that, of course. But don’t worry. The ACC is going to get carved up, too, so this is temporary.

Clemson and Florida State likely weren't interested for the same reason the Big Ten isn't.

Anyway, maybe they could change the name of the AC conference… The Bi-coastal conference (BCC), or Tri-coastal conference (TCC), or Coast to coast conference (CCC or C2CC). Or Atlantic Pacific conference (APC) or Pacific Atlantic Conference (PAC).
