Folks I just received an e-mail in my inbox that offered me tickets to Friday night's Spring match. For those of you like me and netninja who did not get tickets earlier when they were offered, you might want to check your inboxes, maybe you got one too. I got one too. Strange timing. They must have checked to see if I had purchased my Fiserv Forum tickets for Labor Day weekend first, and then decided to let me come on Friday. (At least now I can come! )

Also intrigued about the Week 0 midweek AVCA Showcase match. With KBB being Pres of AVCA, I'm guessing it's in Omaha and will be Wisconsin vs Creighton and Nebraska vs Louisville, Pitt, Florida or something similar. Where is there more news about this? I can't find anything.
EDIT: I heard Sheffield mention it...and you think Creighton gets to host? Think they'll be playing twice that weekend?
DOUBLE EDIT: (gotta listen the WHOLE thing) He said it's going to be only one match, mid-week. Maybe Weds., Aug. 28?

If the AVCA Showcase thing happens in Omaha it will be at the CHI Center, which is a neutral venue (even though it is less than a mile away from the Creighton campus). Creighton's volleyball facility only holds about 2,000 people so no way they would host such a thing there.

Not so sure it can happen at the CHl depending on what week is considered “week 0”. Looks to be in the heart of the CHI concert season. If “week 0” is the week of August 19 it looks like a “midweek” Wednesday schedule would be out due to a “Five Finger Death Punch” concert.
It would be a nice event if a Pitt-Nebraska and Wisconsin-Creighton schedule could be agreed to. But that only works at CHI, not at the middle school gymnasium Creighton calls home. 🏐

I know nothing, I was just musing. It sounded from Sheffield's hints that it would be Aug 28 or so (mid week before the Labor Day tourney). Since the last few AVCA showcases were in Omaha before they discontinued it 15 or so years ago, and since KBB is the President of AVCA, and since they would want a full arena for the season kick off event, I just guessed that Omaha would make sense. And if you figure a 2-Match (one match per team event) that Sheffield hinted at, then Nebraska, Wisconsin, Creighton and "Top 10 team" makes sense. However, I know nothing but am just looking forward to whatever this might be, because it will be a great nonconference opponent for the Badgers on a big stage.

This will be a heck of a non-con schedule this year.

Punzel to the rescue with a bone for information-hungry fans [WSJ online tonight] "Sheffield would like to add two more players to that mix after the transfer portal reopens for two weeks on May 1: “We absolutely will be bringing in at least one more person through the portal,” Sheffield said. “What that is, we don’t know. We have one scholarship and we absolutely are hoping to use that. That is the plan. Ideally, we would like two attackers, whether that’s a left and a right or a left and a middle. That’s one of the advantages of our big kids being capable of playing multiple positions.” As it is, Wisconsin will have just three outsides — Franklin, Orzol and Shadd-Ceres. I feel like we’re in as good a position with those three as anyone in the country,” Sheffield said. “But I’d feel a whole lot better if it was more than just three. We’ve had years where we’ve had five. And it’s an incredible opportunity because two of those are graduating after this year and one of those was our libero. So is it possible to break into the lineup this year? Yeah. Does it give them an advantage for the year after to break into the lineup? Yeah. That’s a position we would like to add a little bit more."
It sounds almost like an advert to a prospective transfer! He's right to be worried. That three will probably only really count as two until TSC gets up to speed. That leaves the badgers very susceptible to an injury at OH. I knew we thought we were short one schollie this year, but I thought the following year we were full up?

Looks like CHI has Wed Aug 28th through the rest of that week free, unless there is some non-ticketed even there (I know that a conference I could have gone to this year was hosted partly at CHI). A Wed-Thurs-Sun-Mon would be a busy first week but that is doable and would be a ton of fun, though I fear we will probably take some week 1 losses against such good competition due to first-year setter blues.

People in the know seemed to think we could recruit up to 5 for 2025 (and the coaches continuing to recruit players like Spears after they got the first four indicate that). Since we ended up only getting four, it makes sense we'd have an opening.

AVCA you say... don't they have a big conference every year? Wouldn't it be interesting to kick the season off at the same place it will finish... www.kfcyumcenter.com/events has a nice big gap right now.

The problem with that is, August 28 is NOT in week 0 and these teams already have matches scheduled for that week.

It's match day! Anyone else expecting a bit of mess and a whole lot of fun? It makes me think of the COVID year matches vs Northwestern that never happened, when the front row was going to be Gregorski and Wohlert and who-knows-who. That would have been interesting :-)
