To be serious, I look at all these pro coaches the way I look at NBA coaches…they really don’t matter. Phil Jackson is a genius because he coached MJ, Shaq and dated the team owners daughter. If youre saying coaching in the NBA doesnt matter because no one does it well / players dont listen, then yea...but there's no other basketball market comparable to the US so yea we're always gonna have like 95% of the best players in the world. Volleyball is different tho - there are countries that put a ton of effort into the sport and have elite coaches to develop talent. If they wanna be the best and keep majority of the stars at home, coaching will definitely matter. Doesnt have to be the very best coaches, but at least some with a history of success in high level pro ball

hate him if you want.A lot of people do but a lot of the worlds most respected players give a lot of credit to him. He built the Serbian team from the ground up and turned them into world champions and Olympic medalists. He also has had a lot of success at the club level. He’s a dick and unorthodox and some of his actions are not defendable but he’s a good volleyball teacher and coach objectively and many players have said that and want to work with him He did not build the Serbian team from the ground up. He got a lot of help from the Russians.

that goes back to my point Unless someone wants to work with Bonitta or Barbolini, they’re not choosing either USA or Europe based on coaches. (Well, unless they’re PVF then they may explicitly choose to avoid) There’s probably five coaches in the world where players would be like “yea, I want to sign there for them” besides Karch, who else you got on that list of 5? 1) Winzer 2) former Australia head coach from 2016-2018 3) Head Coach of Canada NT 4) the one that said "choose to compete" 5) Shannon W.

Why is LOVB getting these bigger athletes?
Do they have more money? or is it mainly cause the national team girls are doing it? so bigger names attract other bigger names?

Why is LOVB getting these bigger athletes? Do they have more money? or is it mainly cause the national team girls are doing it? so bigger names attract other bigger names? IMO the Americans currently playing in Europe aren't choosing LOVB over PVF. They're choosing LOVB over staying in Europe. PVF will get stronger hopefully, but the level of play is nowhere near what the elite athletes competing for national team and Olympic spots need. LOVB seems to realize they need really strong foreign talent (both coaches and athletes) in order to make a league competitive enough to pull the best Americans out of Europe. PVF seems to want to give more opportunity to recent NCAA grads and international players who are 10 years past their primes as well as former NCAA coaches. That's just not good enough for USA Olympic prospects. I actually believe it's a big risk to have so many of the best Americans competing in LOVB in its first year, too. It's a bit like they're taking a year off from playing against the best players in the world to just play against the best players from the USA. They will really need to rely on bringing strong foreign talent to complete their rosters if they want to continue to train and compete at the highest levels. There's a reason the good Serbs don't play in Serbia even though they could. There's a reason the best Germans are going to Italy, etc. Obviously money is a huge factor for those, but even giving higher salaries in the lower level European countries wouldn't make their leagues strong enough for the best Serbs and Germans to stay home. If their goal is to develop into world leaders they have to have their athletes playing against the other best players in the world. Plus, PVF's ability to cut you from the roster to add others who free up at any time is really just bad business, IMO. Who wants to go to work anxious every day that they might be informed they are now unemployed? (Insert "but many states have at-will employment so this can be true of any career" here - but that is not even close to comparable. If you are fired from your accounting job you can find another job just like it without having to move across the world.)
