I disagree that the SUI and GER spots are the only interesting things. I'd say spots 15-17 are very much still up for grabs among at least a half dozen teams. Moreno/Alvarez, Placette/Richard, McBain/Pavan, Paulikiene/Raupelyte, Ahtiainen/Lahti, Gruszczynska/Wachowicz, Hermannova/Stochlova, and the Klingers are all still very much in the mix but none have their spots locked up. Plus, if Placette/Richard get in on points the French will be able to give their host country spot to Chamereau/Vieira. None of those teams who entered Doha qualified for the main draw, just another sign that those final spots are very likely going to come down to that last event in Ostrava. How do I get that from looking at this? www.fivb.com/en/beachvolleyball/rankingwomenI'd actually go to this link and then sort by Top 9 to get a better picture of how they rank. fivb.12ndr.at/olympic-ranking/women

Yeah, totally bizarre that a couple country spots are the only interesting things. It’s partially a function of how both tours drop off heavily after the top 10 so no one really cares who sneaks in at 17. Also, I’d rather just see the three Swiss duke it out in a round Robin rather than their result be determined by who played the most/right tournaments. How do I get interested in the race between teams that aren't making it to the main draw and play their meaningful matches on Tuesdays? Also, I hope for Pavan because I like her and the Spaniards, who have a future. But the rest of them are not exactly interesting teams. None of them are top 20 when you take out the Brazilians and American non-qualifiers.

You are correct that probably five American and five Brazilian teams would qualify if not for the country quota. And it wasn’t that long ago that you could’ve said the same for the men, but definitely no longer. I actually enjoy seeing teams from counties without a long history of success battle it out for an Olympic spot even though they may have no chance to medal this quad. Having everything be Brazil vs the USA in the Olympics isn’t all that interesting to me.

Having everything be Brazil vs the USA in the Olympics isn’t all that interesting to me. Eh, I wouldn't want to watch 5 Brazilian teams and 5 American teams. Probably Scint and Agatha/Rebecca are the only ones that I'm sad are missing out. It's not that I don't like watching teams without the history compete. It's that I don't think those teams are competitive and what we'll see in the Olympics is them getting blown out by the top 10 teams in two of their games and then blowing out the South American/African/Asian qualifier in one of their other games. The quality of play in the Olympics is some of the worst overall in the entire cycle until the last few days, which is a shame. We'd bring in more fans if there were more nail biters in pool like the Elite 16 has. Hell, even make it 4 pools of 6. Every match counts, only top 2 advance to the quarters from each pool.

For maybe the 623rd time, I am getting pulled in by an MHP team looking dominant in the early rounds, but wow do they look good. Cant wait to see them play one of the US teams or AP/Duda

Brandie/MHP lose to Graudina/Samoilova after a dominant 1st set. 21-10, 22-24, 13-15 Brandie had the first three blocks in the game - and then Tina came back to win the blocks battle 5-4 - including two in a row against each of the Canadians at the end of set two. Wilkerson in the net on the final rally of set three.

Lippmann with TEN blocks in a two-set win vs. China. Keeps Laura Ludwig in the playoffs.

Chughes with the absolute domination of the Dutch. Anyone see how that played out, I’m excited to watch the replay.

Agatha/Rebecca are in shambles against Hughes/Cheng. Passing is abysmal and a lot of swings going straight into the net for Brazil

Kloth riding the struggle bus big time right now. She’s been aced so many times in this first I’ve lost count.

just catching up on replay. haven't read any comments.
Glad NED2 beat NED3. Perusic continues to play very well. First four points of USA1 v. BRA2. Barbara fails to side out four straight points and BRA down 0-4. I think it's those hideous looking top pigtails that have thrown off her balance.
now back to catching up
