Does anyone know that the Nebraska Student body Code of Conduct say about actions like this? Most University’s have them. She should held accountable for all her actions, whether in a court of law and/or by the University. studentconduct.unl.edu/university-nebraska-student-code-conductSection I.D.3.b...basically a carve out for the university to send a student through the code if they want to regardless of the nature or location. In my experience having worked as a conduct officer at a different university, the judicial system and the university conduct system operate separately, but while talking to each other. If anything, the university frequently waits for government justice system to work first.

So hard to look away at this train wreck. No doubt Nebraska has help on the way. There is a reason behind this senseless behavior.

Nope. That’s a really tragic situation that i’m sure still hurts her deeply, and I feel for her. Unfortunately, tragedy happens to everyone in their lifetime, and you can’t use it as a shield to act however you please 13 years later. Oh I’m sorry, I forgot you are the determiner of how tragedy affects you and when. By all means continue on with being grand justice of human behavior. JFC the things you sanctimonious people will do just for the sake of feeling right on the internet. Ikr?!? These people act like they’ve never ever done anything wrong. I don’t believe for one second that any one of them has never driven even slightly tipsy—the difference is they weren’t stopped by the police. Nor do I believe they’ve never fudged a line or two when filing their income tax or when they’re submitting an expense report—the difference is they haven’t been accused of stealing.

So Murray is dumb for getting noticed and stopped by police then?

I haven’t driven drunk, but more importantly — when I have been held accountable for bad behavior, I understood that I earned whatever consequence. And being fatherless did not excuse my conduct. The same is true for Harper. If Harper copes by excessive drinking that puts the lives of others at risk, then the future looks extremely grim for her.

Well too freaking bad. She can profess any career path she wants. Plenty of people don't get to work in their preferred career path, many of them because of criminal records, which she will now have. Quite a few countries will not authorize a working visa (which she would need to play overseas) due to a DUI. Adding to that with petty theft charges isn't going to help. She is no longer a minor, so those are going to be on her record for a while. And it's not like she can just transfer to another school, as those charges are a discretionary disqualifying item for admissions. Do I think she should be permanently banned from the team/volleyball? Absolutely not. But she should definitely be taking a (redshirt) year away from the program to get her crap together, get whatever help she needs, and sort through her legal issues and any ramifications from them. Coddling her and telling her she is special because she is an amazing volleyball player is likely, at least, a partially contributing factor to all of this. Now, it's time to grow up. How did you arrive at a year out of curiosity? What is it do you believe that would accomplish? Could she not address the challenges she has and stay with program? I’m not agreeing or disagreeing, just curious. Because it’s a unit of measure already used by the NCAA with stipulations for retaining eligibility and should get her past any potential legal dealings, community service requirements, and give her time to get any additional help she might need. I'm not even saying leave school or be away from the team. Just take a redshirt year to have the time to focus on figuring things out without travel/competing.

At this point I’m convinced the DUI defenders have DUIs themselves or are Harper’s burners. If the latter, then it’s both 🤣

Might be a weird perspective, but I'm struck by how "minor" this scandal is compared to those in other sports.
Drinking and driving is serious behavior, but luckily no one was hurt.
Contrast this with being present at the scene of a murder or other assault, or even committing a a murder or assault like we've seen in football/basketball.

Volleyball as a sport seems to attract a very sensitive crowd maybe?
