I am quite sure Charlie Wade and staff will make sure they have a backup, or two, at every position. Do not think they want to go through another season like this past one, when they did not have a legitimate backup at every position. Hawaii already has 5 middles with Nuerster, Hazan, Thompson, Parks and Yewchuk already on board. Payne comes in the following season. If I had to guess, they probably are targeting a 3rd setter, another passing OH, libero, and possibly another middle perhaps. We see but Hawaii is stacked already. Anymore just adds to the depth at this point. Also, Hawaii has had success converting middles like Hogland and Averill so I wouldn't doubt that someone like Yewchuk as an example surprises. Or someone like Parks steps up next season. Seddik was a possible thought but good for him to go pro. He will beast for sure. Would like to see Hawaii be 3 deep at each Outside Hitter positions, and also at Opposite. Not to mention at Setter and the Libero positions also. This pass season, Hawaii was not even 2 deep at every position, and it showed.

I wondered about Charlie's backup plan: Except for naming Spyros Chakas, he did not identify a Libero 2 in any other match. Who would have been the backup setter after Kauling served for a middle?

It makes sense to load up on middles now for depth since next year they will will lose Thompson to graduation and possibly Nusterer if he decides to go pro. Who knows maybe Parks and or Yewchuk transfer out as well. I remember there were talks of a local middle coming in. Names that were thrown around were Haidar (Punahou) or Longfellow (Hawaii Baptist).

You need at least a couple months away from this community. You picked the right name for yourself, Baby. Thinking your diaper needs to be changed. Sheesh, you smell.

Oh def Hawaii is loading up the middle. But not sure if it's really that high on the list unless it was someone of Seddiks quality. They got Payne coming in next season and I think they are going after another middle for the next class as well. But koavball would know more than me. Regardless I think at least next season....we should be good. But any top transfer middle or someone like Seddik...Hawaii definitely not turning down.

Just really looking at the current Seasons depth chart, there was
5/4/3 Deep at Outside
3/2 at Opposite
3/2 at Setter (down to 1 when Kauling served)
2 at Libero (down to 1 when Taylor served)
4 at middle.
Next season, not yet accounting for redshirts is
4/5 deep at outside (5th being Kearney)
2 deep at opposite
2 deep at setter
3 at Libero
5 at middle
Kind of ironic that for such a pin heavy recruitment year, it is definitely the weakest depth point for Hawaii again.
So in agreement that the biggest recruits for Hawaii are an experienced Opposite and another passing Outside. If lucky, a 3rd setter but considering they won't see a wink of play time, there's nothing to convince them with.

Love the article! A big mahalo to the seniors again. Not winning a national championship or making the NCAA tournament doesn't sum of the great careers each of them had. Now it's on to the next, starting with the returnees and new recruiting class. GO BOWS!

As super senior classes finally age out of the collegiate game, we should start seeing a lot of teams' with freshmen laden rosters. Teams like UCLA, Beach, GCU, Hawaii, Stanford stand to lose nearly their entire starting lineup after this season. I really hope that Wade's crew are able to replace the elite level passing that we've lost over the past 2-3 seasons.

Sears was suited up as the second libero before he disappeared from the sidelines.

They return pretty much everybody of their top 7. CSUN was already a handful this past season.

I see it as a rebuilding year for them. UCSB? Let's not talk about their coach who has been underwhelming with great talent the last few years.

Don't graduate? Don't move on? Don't grad transfer? You sure?
