Not making excuses but maybe he's right about the team culture being different this year. Everyone noticed how without Spyros there wasn't a leader. How Chaz just didn't seem to have it all year. Or how all of us noticed Charlie just let Tread fail over and over again without giving Kauling a real shot. I can see how what Keoni said could be true based off of the items listed above. Everybody saw it. But Charlie, like any other coach in their respective realm, needs to make tough decisions year in and year out even if it means the team culture gets shocked.

I think if what Keoni said is true, and Wade kept moving the goalposts, he has every reason to be upset. If Wade never intended for him to be “that guy”, he should’ve been upfront with him. Anyway, I wonder if the podcast will have any negative affect on recruiting If you mean this section:
"Wade told him what to work on, making sure his fall stats were good, and that his serve was consistent, etc. Felt like when he reached the finish line it kept getting pushed further and further."
Wouldnt you want your coach to keep pushing you to get better? Like if the goal was to bench 225, and you get to it, it's only natural to change the goal to 315...
I also think noone should expect to automatically be a starter no matter if you were in the previous year or became an all-american. Whoever is the best in the practice gym should start. How you would define "best" is another matter...

You’re right about that- a coach should keep pushing his team. However, based on what I heard, it sounds like a case of false promises, which is bad. Obviously I’m basing my opinion on what I heard from the podcast, but if a coach promises one thing, but then continually changes it up, I would be upset too.

He has his reasons for being unhappy but did he really need to bring up that CW cut 4 players midseason and all that stuff about how that killed the team culture, etc.? IMHO it seems to me that he's hurt and throwing coach - and by extension, the program, under the bus. Like I said, I wished he wouldn't have aired his dirty laundry in public. Whatever you think about Keoni good or bad, airing his dirty laundry for all to see isn't going to help the program...

The reality is he was never going to be a starter ahead of Spyros or Chaz and he only became the starter because Spyros got hurt. He was a starter for most of the season so what's his problem? That he's not guaranteed a starting spot next year?!

I heard it as Keoni getting frustrated with the goalpost being moved. It's not quite the same as pushing someone to get physically fit. When you tell a player that you expect x, y and z to get a shot to start and continue to move the goalpost, I can see how the frustration could kick in for a player. Though, as a player its hard to see that certain criteria to start on a high level team isn't static and one of the worst things you can do as a coach is make promises you can't keep but sometimes it's hard to be honest to an earnest athlete. I do agree that no one should always expect to be a starter and should always be pushing but as humans we like to rest on our hard work and see the fruits of our labors sooner rather than later. What we don't know is if Wade was honest with him about other things. As a coach, when a new player comes in with more physical gifts like height or certain credentials (think Louis and Tread) you feel like the foundation is there to build off of more than a player that lacks height, physicality and prep experience etc. From what I heard on the podcast, I don't think there is a right and wrong person here. It's a tough situation to be in as a player and coach and is a common one that happens all the time with coaches and players who are operating at a high level.

He def is and that disheartens me tbh because I always rooted for him and even his boasting on the court. Lol I enjoyed it tbh while I know others had issue with it. My problem is that he was thinking of transferring out after the LBSU series. He didn't officially call a meeting or even meet with the Head coach until the end of the season! Brah thats almost 2 months keeping the main person you get issue with out of the loop.Lol The same person he said always moved the goal posts...he went to every other coach but to express his dissatisfaction with Charlie. So when he decides to transfer out he is disappointed because it was brief and he was disappointed that Charlie didn't fight to make him stay? Lol What??? Was he serious when he admitted to that? He didn't even come and talk with Coach and coach has to find out from everyone else but from the horses mouth and you expect for him to fight for you to stick around....but not happy because he didn't? Lol yikes Keoni wanted to be THE guy and the coaching staff and even the fanbase even on here didn't see that for him. But he sees that for himself someplace else. And I wish him the best!

It’s pretty common for a head coach to not want players taking space in their practice gym that have hinted they plan on entering the portal or are unhappy with their role on the team.
Thiim has always had a high opinion of himself, so it’s no suprise he wants to be one of the main offensive options his final year. I don’t think he showed enough to be guaranteed that kind of role. Good luck to him. UH already has his replacement.

the oos podcast bro. Keoni revealed ALL the drama behind the scenes! Apparently Charlie said something along the lines as "less is more"... They need to fix the volleyball culture because you could see it falling apart. Charlie said the same on call the coach. He never hid the fact that was his decision. However he also couldn't go into great detail because it was a decision based on specific players. Also, I watched the podcast....Keoni said he expected to be "THE guy." But you are also battling 3-4 year starters whom won 2 nattys. He eventually battled Chaz for one spot and started over him during the ending part of the season. Also, sounds like he had issue with Louis. Lol yikes lol When Keoni took over as a starting outside during big west play, his serving tanked … seemed like it was always him (and Sakanoko) serving in the net or out when the team really just needed something in play. The only time he played “smart” volleyball was the second match in Irvine. Hope he can find somewhere where he can be the showboat and the coach not care about errors. Good luck being a 5-11 outside hitter with limited ball control tho.

IMHO he really didn't need to bring all that up except that like I said, he's hurt and lashing out trying to make the coach look bad...
