If you watch the ESPN Honolulu Ask the Coach episode, Charlie explains that FERPA/HIPAA laws prohibit UH from talking about the students and their status. He said that there are reasons why they are not on the sidelines. I know FERPA has to do with students' privacy rights and HIPAA has to do with medical privacy rights. The less is more part has to do with his philosophy that too many players will get few attempts at hitting during practice. And to him, he would rather concentrate on getting one hitter getting more reps versus having many hitters getting some reps. The ones that can contribute are the ones that should have more reps. www.youtube.com/live/u6bqP79AhXM?si=goz_4BpHUN8pNbZNExactly. Charlie said it. And explain the less is more ok call the coach. But he can't and won't be able to go into detail. Which sucks for him but it is what it is. But what wasn't said, was that if a student falls below 2.0 in a semester, then they would be on probation, which prohibits any participation in school activities for example, if there were medical situations that occurred, or if life things occurred. So it's not solely based on getting rid of players for the fun of it.

He def is and that disheartens me tbh because I always rooted for him and even his boasting on the court. Lol I enjoyed it tbh while I know others had issue with it. My problem is that he was thinking of transferring out after the LBSU series. He didn't officially call a meeting or even meet with the Head coach until the end of the season! Brah thats almost 2 months keeping the main person you get issue with out of the loop.Lol The same person he said always moved the goal posts...he went to every other coach but to express his dissatisfaction with Charlie. So when he decides to transfer out he is disappointed because it was brief and he was disappointed that Charlie didn't fight to make him stay? Lol What??? Was he serious when he admitted to that? He didn't even come and talk with Coach and coach has to find out from everyone else but from the horses mouth and you expect for him to fight for you to stick around....but not happy because he didn't? Lol yikes Keoni wanted to be THE guy and the coaching staff and even the fanbase even on here didn't see that for him. But he sees that for himself someplace else. And I wish him the best! Are you or anyone surprised that he wanted to be the GUY… he’s always been that way, a show off!!! I mean truth be told....the only reason both Sakanoko and Keoni played more significant roles was because Spyros went down and Chaz had an injured hand. So that forced those guys to step to the plate and I commend them both for trying their best. But had Spyros not went down.....it would have been Spyros and Chaz out there likes its always been and Keoni would have still been relegated to being a serving sub. So Keoni wouldn't have been happy either way.

It’s pretty common for a head coach to not want players taking space in their practice gym that have hinted they plan on entering the portal or are unhappy with their role on the team. Thiim has always had a high opinion of himself, so it’s no suprise he wants to be one of the main offensive options his final year. I don’t think he showed enough to be guaranteed that kind of role. Good luck to him. UH already has his replacement. Wow! You guys have another one coming down the pipe!?! Wow! alright fans! Go manifest Yamada!

His serve was special when he got it in. As others have said, his serve (along with Sakanoko) actually hurt us in situations when he should have just put it in play so it was a double edged sword.... I don't know where to look up stats but my feeling is that Thiim didn't end up in the top 10 (maybe even top 20) nationally in serving when the season came to an end...

Only Sakanoko had more service errors at 74

Like brah you hate it here so much, just quit and go somewhere else!! Things felt more relaxed when they finally left.

Someone could be trying to hold in how they feel but it could become a poison to the team whether or not they're right or wrong in their individual situations. If certain things are discussed openly or too liberally, it could lower the overall morale and affect the culture of the team from the inside out.

As a new time Hawaii fan since last year and thread lurker for the past year or so, I feel like a lot of people are blowing this a bit out of proportion. He pretty much said they didn't see eye to eye with where Keoni wants to be on the team and what Charlie expects of him for the future. As a professional athlete (since collegiate players can make NIL money...they're pretty much professional) he's totally in the right to want to "bet on himself" and think he has the "potential to be greater" and have a "bigger role." If he didn't think that...that would be a fundamental problem for him as an athlete and for him to grow. So maybe don't flame him for thinking that way? Because if he didn't think that way or if ANYONE on the team didn't think that way, then they shouldn't even be on the team, period. How else would the starters grow if the rest of the team doesn't grown and push everyone else around them to get better? That's good culture.
Also it's a little unfair to just outright say that if Spyros and Chaz stayed healthy, they would be starting all the way till the end. Because at the start of the season and when the team is on a high, everyone was all over Tread. But when games got rough and sloppy he was the first to see the chopping block from the threat. All this while he was never really unhealthy enough where his season was over (like how Spyros was). And the rollercoaster would continue all the way from the start to the end of the season. So I'm sure if Chaz or even Spyros (even though it's unlikely) got REALLY bad somehow, I'm SURE people would say "Let Keoni or Louis start over those guys."
The problem is that if what Keoni said is true about the finish line being moved...that's a problem from the coaches. But honestly, not an uncommon problem unfortunately. How many times is someone promised "x, y, z" and when they fulfill it they're given a new goal to reach? Of course, that's also a part of growth. But it is frustrating nonetheless to players because as a player...you want to play lol. Just like how Keoni was okay being towel boy/ball boy his first year--he was specifically told that. Then as time goes by and he's being hinted at he might get a shot and then never gets it, it's only natural to be frustrated. He even mentioned on the last OOS podcast how he was gunning for Chaz's spot. And then on this podcast he mentioned how him and Chaz think of it as healthy competition to help each other grow.
There's no easy solution and no good resolution. All you can say is best of luck to Keoni and best of luck to Hawaii MVB and move on. Maturity is acknowledging differences and being able to move in separate paths. So if Keoni sees that in himself, I think it's a mature decision and I respect it/wish him the best.

We’ll see maybe Thiim was the debbie downer of the Hawaii vball culture.
