This is a really tough match for me because I am a gopher fan but an oglivie miner Rubin Stan Stanford's biggest issue (or weakness) likely will be blocking. They lost Kipp who was an exceptional RS blocker and their middles are very tall and lack closing speed. Their middles will be fine OOS, but in system they will provide plenty of holes to hit though. Harvey, the projected RS starter is at best 6'1" and won't be able to match Kipp's blocking prowess. We'll see, hope I'm wrong, but I'm worried.

I am very intrigued by Harvey playing opposite. I want to see how she is holding up there defensively and offensively.

I don’t know if MN will win, have to give the edge to Stanford… but I think it will be more competitive than the last couple of years and Minnesota could absolutely surprise some people. I sure hope so. MN's difficult to gauge at this point. the talent level and the level of coaching on paper suggested a much better season last year, but they kinda flopped. Stanford with Minor, Rubin, Oglivie and Francis (if healthy) has a very high floor. i'm prepared to have my BIG ego bruised, tbh.

Eh head to toe height isn't that indicative of blocking reach, need to look at wingspan, hand size and HOPS. Minnesota fans will remember MB Taylor Morgan as undersized for the position but a monster at the net. I wouldn't expect her to match Kendall Kipp but maybe not as glaring of a weakness as you might expect

For me the core trio of Miner, Rubin, Oglivie is the reason why I’m giving Stanford the win here. I think they have some potentially great pieces in Harvey and Blyashov as well so I’ll be watching them closely. But I do definitely expect this to be pretty competitive especially if Wucherer is improved and can’t deny Shaffmaster is a baller in terms of all around play. Minnesota has good depth on the right side with Crowl/Grote both being solid options and I’m excited to possibly see Acevedo’s collegiate debut. I also think getting production out of the middles will be a contributing factor for both teams. IMO, Cawa will improve Stanford's back row D and passing vs last year. I expect her to start in the DS1 role based upon what I saw in the UA match. So are you thinking Cawa for Blyashov and Pringle for Harvey? Or is one of them ready for 6 rotations with Rubin?

Excited to see a revamped Stanford squad! There will be growing pains but think they have so much potential.
I predict Blyashov will be the other OH and obviously Andrews as the other MBs. Opp will be Harvey.
Hammer is correct, two big MBs for Stanford means I’m fully expecting teams will exploit that. It’s giving me Merete Lutz vibes, lol.
Anyhow, Stanford in 5 sets. Miner + Rubin + Oglivie will anchor this team this season.
Go Card!

I’m just hoping for a competitive match even if we take the L. I just think Miner is too good

Since my sister asked, and I looked it up… If you are attending the match in person, note that Fiserv Forum has a NO BAGS policy, allowing wallets up to 4”x6”x1”. (Exception for diaper bags and medically necessary supplies, both of which are subject to being x-rayed.)

Stanford had 16 SE and 7 SA against Milwaukee. Hope they repeat SE against us.

Stanford had 16 SE and 7 SA against Milwaukee. Hope they repeat SE against us. Stanford's serve also yielded a boat load of bad passes from Milwaukee. Arguably you could say it was the biggest factor in their 3-0 sweep of the Panthers. I have no idea how good Minny's serve receive is, but if they can handle Stanford's serve they should have a good chance to pull off a minor upset.
