I didn’t watch, but given the comments, how surprised are people at how tragic Kurt sounded like? And the lack of offense from Harvey?
I’m definitely a bit shocked by the former given the initial hype around Kurt and her Fenerbache experience.

I was surprised by Harvey and Kurt. Harvey will get better I believe. Will be interesting this year they can’t score enough to not have 3 defenders in the back, and maybe that’s what they need, maybe that’s their identity. Grind teams down. The outsides will have to get better playing OOS. Stranger things have happened.

OK, figured out the difference that made a difference: digging! Who knew? Stanford dramatically outplayed Minny in D, but the Gophers still managed to hit over .300 which kept three of the sets close. I also expect Kurt to improve a lot. I trust that the coaches had a reason for red-shirting her.

Just the eye test, but it felt like to me Harvey had some jitters early on and got much better as the match went on (think I remember multiple kills in the 5th). Not sure why Hambly thinks OPP over OH for her - maybe Blyashov has OH locked down and he doesn’t want to keep moving her around. Kurt on the other hand did not really get better as the match kept going on - a lot of errors that were a little unexpected for a player who had pro experience coming in.

I don't have the stats handy to back this up, but I thought I recall the TV commentators saying that Gophers hit (over) 0.350 in the fourth set.
Great.
So? They lost the set 13-25 ...

May sound sad to say since MN was a consistent top 10 team for a long time up until very recently, but this year if they make the tournament and win a round (so essentially a top 32 team), I'd be pleased. Though I think they could do better. Sucks that hosting isn't a given anymore.
