I think it's just expectation setting. Better to say that and then get the upset than say 'We're confident that we're going to win' and then lose. I imagine it was more of a process focused comment if anything. Along the lines of 'We've put in the work, now we just have to play the game and see what happens. Maybe we get killed, or maybe we get a big upset. Either way, we stay process focused because our ultimate goal is not to win in August, but to win in December.' |

I didn't realize that the match will dispense with the line judges and use the Olympic replay system. Also, a countdown clock on serves and timeouts will be shorter. This is good news IMO. I'm a big fan of the timeout adjustments. Longer media timeouts are fine, but having four 90-second timeouts at the end of a close set really drags the game out. I believe they are going to two media timeouts at 8 and 16, but team timeouts are only 30 or 45 seconds. Pretty sure they're also doing the thing with the up ref on the same side of the court as the benches so the camera isn't showing the back of their head in the middle of the action. I hadn't heard the serve clock. I like it, but that's a pretty significant adjustment to playing style for some. |

There is no a priori reason to think they'll get "killed," unless they are going to be playing short handed. On paper this should be a fairly even match, especially in Louisville. I'm not sure you want to put getting killed into the universe. If they get killed it's because they did not play to their potential, not because of some mismatch. I doubt any of that is lost on her. |

Good "fun facts". The only addition I would make is for Louisville fans and the reference to Ali having spoken at the Stock Pavilion: the building is exactly what the name makes it sound like; part of the Agriculture School campus, it is a building that has been used for livestock shows, rodeos, as well as concerts, speeches, etc. Dirt "floors", covered with tarps, when necessary. Billy Joel played a concert there in 1977 (I wasn't there), and during the song "Piano Man", instead of the microphone smelling "like a beer", he reportedly sang "the microphone smells like a steer". |

There's never been an issue with the players competitiveness or intensity so whatever she's saying to them clearly works. Maybe its a tactic of hers but regardless, I don't think you're right here lol |

Lou Holtz used to use a tactic like this: in all pre game pressors he would talk aboit how great the other team was and how they were probably going to get killed but we’ll show up!! No bulletin board quotes for opponent: make em over confident |
