Another comparison, in 2023, Middle Tennessee State beat UTEP twice (3-0, 3-1) while Washington lost 2-3 to UTEP in their first game of that season. Middle Tennesse returns some of their best players: Adriana Rhoda (6'3" OH) and Laurie Jansen (5'11" OH) but graduated their starting setter. This may be a competitive match. Go Dawgs!

Huskies win the 2nd too, 25-22, led by Barton with 7 kills only 1 error. Middles are contributing well too. Fletcher has cooled off since yesterday's match though, as has Bush. Wilmes can in and had 3 errors..

Wasn't the cleanest of matches by Wash, but they get the sweep led by Barton with Barton with 9, Endsley with 8, and both middles with 7. Good defensive numbers today too.

Just looking at the stats, I like the defensive team stats: outdigging the opponent by 12, outblocking by 3, holding MT to .082 hitting percentage. I also like the contribution of our middles, though hard to say what sort of block MT put up. Not so happy with the offensive stats (.208) (56% sideout). With regard to setters, Wilson and Haury were about even in number of assists. Next up: Fresno St and Georgia in Boulder. Georgia is 2-0, nipping UCSB and sweeping USF in a tournament in Tallahassee.

Both Georgia and Fresno State will be tougher tests, so gotta raise the level in hitting efficiency.

From studying the stats, the average total blocks/set in 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019 are 1.8, 1.8, 2.4, 2.5, 2.7, respectively. This season so far (OK, it's only 2 games): 2.9. In the last 2 seasons, the struggle to close the blocks were real for both middles (at least it was for this fan). So, hopefully they can keep it up.
It is also exciting to see the improved middle hitting efficiency that was missing last season.
