After much consideration, I’ve decided to light a candle for Penn State in 4 tightly contested sets. They have the better chance, in my opinion, of knocking off Nebraska or Wisconsin to claim the title, and for that reason we must let the candles do their work.

My one fearless prediction is that the Wisconsin/Minnesota match will NOT be seen live on BTN, because I think this one will go longer than 2 hours! I agree with you and I don't think it's because this match could go 5 sets. It feels like every NCAA match so far has been incredibly long. Between the timeouts, the challenges, floor wipes, scorers' table keeping up with substitutions, etc, most 4th sets don't even start until after the 2 hour mark. It's out of control. |

The truth is, Purdue beat Penn State twice a year-ago and have 5 returning starters. Penn State has at least 4 new starters including their freshman setter. Maybe playing in that Pitt match will help Penn State as they walk into a jam packed gym of boisterous students? It may help that the two Nebraska B side transfers were in Holloway a year ago when Nebraska and Purdue played their 5 setter, but neither one played a point, so beyond their experience as standing fans I am not sure it’s of much benefit. It’s the first conference match so we’ll have to see how both teams respond.
And again, Purdue beat Penn State twice a year ago, but the one in West Lafayette did go 5 sets. We’ll see how it goes. 🏐

The ride was fun while it lasted until we got obliterated by friggin' Pitt, so... Kinda like the new players all hitting a mid-season sophomore slump. Expect the early Big 10 slate to be unkind to us.

Purdue in 4 because they are at home. I would be very impressed if Penn State can pull this one out, but I don't see it unless a couple players go off.
