Wow! This may be good for Hawaii since Las Vegas is like a "home away from home."

yeah, this was the first year after the USAV/AAU split, so the event was pretty small. I don't know if we had any other options for off site. I just went back and looked at my bill and here was the daily rate from 6/29 through 7/3 base rate $158, final rate after taxes/fees $252 base rate $158, final rate after taxes/fees $252 base rate $198, final rate after taxes/fees $298 base rate $268, final rate after taxes/fees $378 base rate $198, final rate after taxes/fees $298 So roughly $295 a night for just the hotel. the base rate for the room ranged from $158 to $268, but then they nailed you with almost $100 in fees; Room Tax, Refrigerator - $35 per day, MB Lodging Tax, Resort Fee ($30), Resort Fee Tax ($4.01). Tax on the resort fee seems overly bad, but you gotta pay for those sports stadiums somehow. The winter formal this year on Dec 12 weekend is run by socal cup and the Mandalay Bay rate is $300 per night after fees for a standard double queen room. I haven't ever done this, but supposedly if you tell them you need a refrigerator to hold your medicine, they'll comp the $35 daily fee. Also, be careful about the snack tray that is next to the TV. It's weight based, so if you move anything off it, they'll charge you for the snack. We basically cleared off the top of the dresser to hold all our stuff, and I had to go down to customer service every morning with a picture that showed we hadn't eaten any of the snacks. Once they saw the picture, they would reverse the charges on the bill. It was a giant PITA.

You can find decent cheap places to stay but then you need to have a car or pay for an uber to the venue. Luxor is the cheapest decent room that is a short and easy walk to The Mandalay CC. We tried the Excalibur one year and it was disgusting and a longer walk. Luxor was half the price of MB and had some good affordable restaurants and the room was clean.

Fitting that a LBSU stan advocates for THE pyramid hotel. Luxor's only downside is that it smells like smoke 24/7 as the smoke from the casino wafts up freely to the hotel room hallways due to the lack of ceilings inside. Rooms are very clean and nice tho.

Orleans hotel looks pretty cool from the outside... but hella smokey inside. Got super plenty parking tho It's not bad. Stayed twice for aau basketball. It's a Boyd Hotel so "The California" frequenters can use points and likely get a deal.
