What is going on in the world of the U17 division? This is the first full season that juniors who technically are U18 can play U17s, does anyone know of major class of 2026 commits choosing to stay in their age class or staying in their age group? Anyone know of sleeper teams or teams expecting to do well? With a non SoCal team winning in 2024, you gotta think that this is the most open age group for teams to win.

Anyone know of sleeper teams or teams expecting to do well? With a non SoCal team winning in 2024, you gotta think that this is the most open age group for teams to win. last year there were several pre July 2006 DOB HS juniors playing U17 from the beginning of the season and this AAU rule was in the books the year before that but I am not sure anyone noticed it and used it in the 22/23 season. It is a carry over from girls (so older HS juniors don't get stuck in 18s that finish in April) which doesn't really apply to boys but everyone seems to like it so even if it may have been originally an accident, they kept it. Currently this type of age/grade exception applies to 12,13,14,17,18 on the boys side. They might as well allow it in 15 and 16 to minimize reclassifications and allow teams to stay together. Team Rockstar 17s added two impact players; Mateo Fuerbringer returns to this group after playing his actual age group last year for the first time. Cash Essert started for SC Legends 17s last year as a HS So and playing with rockstar 17s this year. This team is the top of the top 17s group of Coast, BB, 949 and Surf

I got my re classifications mixed up. Those are the two I noticed. Are there others?

Not sure if there are other "impact" players moving around on those five teams... With only one tournament done in the season, it's too early to tell who will ultimately come out on top out of the SoCal teams. TR beat BB 2-0 and Surf 2-1 and 949 and COAST didn't play any of the other four, so who knows.

Feel like this is a pretty weak year balboa, mb surf, bay to bay, rockstar, coast, HVA, WPVC, Academy, Adversity, Mvvc all have for the most part substantially stronger 18s teams.

This is a good take. Sting 17s kept their core including a U19/NTDP and NTDP and added a couple new ones including one of the All-AAU kids from last year's 17s 3rd place team. Will be interesting to see them play the group that left.

Wish Aleksey would've joined this group and made a run at a national title, while playing at the age group that gets the most college coach recruiting attention (not that he'll need it).

One kid from the 17-1s last season stayed down to play in his class, other than that just new kids to the club.

In SoCal going into this weekend 2 17s teams are in Gold 1 and 4 in Gold 2. (Coast and 949 in 1 and BB, Rockstar, MB and A4 in 2).

949 TR Coast BB Surf Wave
Not much gap between each next each other but the difference between the top and bottom is big
