I I saw very little of this match while at dinner in PA What I did see was annoying; Calissa a serve E in crunch time Were they out of subs? And Wookie unable or unwilling to take a swing I’m sure most of the rest was quite fine if they hit in the 300s Out hotel has BTN so NEB & WI will hopefully put up a big show First two sets were clean and clinical.

Z with only 1 dig in the 3rd set? hmm didn't notice that until after crunching the numbers Wucherer had more swings in the third set than in the first two combined. Finished with 29 attempts to Hanson's 27. I'd guess that's the first time that has happened all season? I'd hope it's the last time as well.

The two guys doing the match are trying but it’s almost comical, there is a constant stream of verbiage that misses the mark more often than not. The guy who takes the cake, though, is the sideline guy. He can’t get his comments out correctly in the order they need to be to make sense. Looked like a midget next to Mel! Well… I guess it’s an educational experience!

The two guys doing the match are trying but ... I gotta admit that it's something I would never, ever, in a million years, be willing to try doing. (And I would be ripped to shreds here on VT if I did.)

That's a big plus in my book. You have to cut them a lot of slack. If you don't want to listen to them, you can always mute the broadcast...

(And I would be ripped to shreds here on VT if I did.) I did commentary for an online regional eSports tournament. It is definitely not as easy as you think, especially when you're trying to fill dead air. It is something I'd do again though, as I had a lot of fun doing it. While I'd be willing to give it a go for a volleyball match, I can only imagine how bad the feedback on here would be if they, for some reason, put me on the mic for a Gopher game even if it's on BTN+

Gotta feel for these students. My thing is at least know the game 😭 the OSU/MN match was bad. Not even understanding rotations. I think at one point Minatee rotated to the backrow and Phoebe came in and they said “great game plan by coach Cook”. It’s the little things that they should know beforehand. I can look past the horrible voices and the mispronunciations of names.

Again, this is not some free service so we should just be happy with whatever is available.

I can look past the horrible voices and the mispronunciations of names. You're right on this. If you're going to be on air, at least have a working knowledge of what is going on, or do the research. The event where I did commentary, I know the game pretty well in addition to the players, so I had that going for me despite never doing commentary before. If you aren't involved in the volleyball world either coaching or playing at a higher level, there's a lot of misconceptions or a lack of knowledge of the game. It might be beneficial to tell those crews doing BTN+ games that the people watching are usually the most devoted and most knowledgable fans, so having people that know the game more than your average broadcaster can make the product better. Not that I'm an expert, but I think a play-by-play person should know: 1] Players on the roster and how to pronounce their names 2] Basic rules of the game (not necessarily what constitutes a double, for example, but the black and white stuff, that should be a given) 3] What the hand signals for officials represent 4] Some volleyball terminology (eg what is a sideout, dig, slide, free ball, and so on) 5] Some background info on the players and the teams (eg best hitters/blockers, is someone struggling as of late, stats to pepper in) If they can start to do that at the BTN+ level (If it's on a network those things should be expected) then I think their job will get a lot easier
