Wisconsin is rightfully the heavily favored team and is loaded with talent at all positions, as usual. But they're not invincible, and some of their weaknesses have been evident in matches with teams that could attack those weaknesses consistently throughout the match and not just in a set. Specifically, I don't believe their serve receive is as sharp as it has been in the last couple of years, putting them out of system more often. Illinois is one of the toughest serving teams in the league when they're on, with a good variety of styles and speeds. In addition, they've upgraded their team with their big, athletic freshmen (Philpot and Smith), and also with Mundo at libero, who will be critical at keeping the Illini in system themselves. As a team, they play with much more confidence at home, and the crowd at Huff seems to elevate their game if they get it going (against Purdue last year as a great example). Could get much more interesting than some seem to assume.

What? No fancy graphics? The Wisconsin red is fine, even for these tired old eyes.
No fancy graphics but click anyone's name and be magically transported to their roster page- isn't that exciting?!

In fact, if there is one place I’d say they have undoubtedly upgraded, it’s in their passing, by replacing GG with Lola and with Franklin on average passing better this year. There are no obvious serving targets anymore. The points about Illinois are well taken. The badger setting has been squirrelly at times. The transition game comes and goes, still. I think we miss GGs OOS setting a little, especially to Franklin and Smrek.

Badger pregame
Carlini Explains her role in developing attacking strategies based off film Lots of discussion about strategies for overloading and isolation of blockers/hitters. Mosher and Terry are good servers. Will pose a challenge. Really has been working with the setters to have them recognize when passers will be under pressure and get base more quickly
Cole Ahlgren (social media production) VBall more of a creative open space. Not as crowded as bball. Comes from gopher vball. Played a bit in the past, but has really fallen in love with it. Can take 30 h editing to put a piece together.
Sheffield Message to team. Got to get better. Get on the train. Quick turnaround this week. Can't feel sorry for ourselves. No time. This is what you signed up for. Low HP on Friday. Weren't connecting on the quicks, pin hitters weren't choosing great sets and Nebraska played good D. A combination. Have to be careful of Mosher if she is jump setting. Also Terry. Can be a pretty intimidating at times, though student support has fallen off with missing tournament. Expects that will start changing soon. (Doesn't like the dressing rooms!!) Sees this as a good chance to make a statement.

Given the aftermath of the Nebraska match, especially Sarah's comments, the question of the day for me is this: Will the Badgers come out and play like a team who has collectively experienced a Bridge On The River Kwai moment?
We know what it looks like when they don't "have that edge". I don't want to see that again.

ILL getting beat by a better team. I like that Averie is really going up and swinging hard. Barry lets too many balls go without even trying.
