I am also really impressed and pleased with cooks coaching. I have seen steady improvement on most of the things that were weaknesses at the beginning of the season and that is all you can ask for really.

A drama-free road weekend is exactly what you'd expect from a team with its eyes on hosting. Wucherer's passing improvement over the last month is my biggest revelation. And she has the best hitting percentage out of the 3 pins with 11 kills hitting .421.

Throughout this match, it felt like the Gophers were outblocking Michigan. But the stats say it was 9 blocks for each team. Maybe the Gophers' blocks were simply putting Michigan OOS instead of resulting in points.

Nice to have a team winning the games they should win (minus the LA trip and the whole puking in the trashcan thing...). Slow and steady improvement is a big win IMO, especially from Wuchs and serve receive in general. I just want Z to get back to her digero assassin ways!

Happy for Wookies passing and floor D lately, nervous about how she gets up after, and definitely anxious to see how she holds up against the increase in competition upcoming

The next step is for her to show she can have performances like that against better teams, but glad she's strung together several good hitting performances in a row.

That's why I suggested that what seemed to be better Gopher blocking may have been because the Gopher "blocks" were just putting Michigan out of system.

Michigan actually played better today than I expected given the loss of Jacobs. Blocking has been a major weakness but it showed up today and kept us in sets. Blue gave away Set 1 with multiple unforced errors and then water found its level. Jacobs was most missed in the back row, where Virtue put out a parade of different DS/OH combos. Valuable experience for the freshmen, a couple of which got their first extended play time against conference competition. Onward!

The question was asked if something is up with Z lately. I'm not sure if it's a Z issue or a scheme issue, but she has trouble getting to balls hit by the outside hitter that are more cut than cross (As in they're sharp crosses that are headed more toward the attack line than the back line). On those plays she's setting up to dig the deep cross and leaving that hard angle open. I saw it a lot in the first set, and there are other games where teams who could hit that saw success.
From what I saw, the block wasn't setting up to take away line, but to take away the cross. In that case, I'd expect Z to swing wide and take that hard angle away. By swing wide, I mean change her position to cover more of that angle closer to the line instead of hanging further back. I remember getting told to swing wide on defense a LOT at tournaments as a libero, a hard habit for me to break since I was used to covering deep cross.
Is it possible she's shading back more to cover our back row OH who are not the best defensively? Perhaps. I get the impression Z is weaker digging to her left than right, so it would make sense to have her swing wide and go to her right to get the dig on a deep cross if needed. Then again, it may be a system issue, where she's being told to cover that spot in the defense and the lack of results isn't necessarily her fault. Just some food for thought.

Former Libero myself and I agree, she does look out of position a lot, but she is also watching sooooo many balls drop, and it looks like she’s not reading the hitters or ready. She is typically good at covering tips over the block, but I haven’t seen a “wow” moment from her in a while. Maybe she just needs a pep talk from Murr

Gophers have now won 9 sets in a row...so something is working schematically. Either the Gophers are winning in spite of Z, or there has been a schematic change which makes Z look out of position...that's more of mcmike's domain than mine.

Nice to have a team winning the games they should win (minus the LA trip and the whole puking in the trashcan thing...). 13 matches so far against teams with Pablo rankings (as of yesterday) over 30, and 12 have been sweeps.
