Those were both a long time ago and things were very different (in both of those) then(s). Plus both had the support of their administrations to make the changes that were needed. Ok, but the point is that with the right coach who can get admins, recruits and boosters to see his/her vision, success is possible. You think MTSU said "it's really important that we hire and support a coach to make an elite 8 in volleyball...let's hire the guy from North Alabama!" or is it more likely Peck and his camp business unearthed some players who won some games and got administrators on board? Sheffield took over arguably the worst program in the country at that point, not named Savannah State. He said we are going to charge for tickets - admin said "you can't pay people to come to our games" but a few years in, they were selling tickets to UAlbany Volleyball. The prediction is, if they get this right and give the coach time, they could be a mid-major power. My point is, that is true, though not at all unique to Charlotte. Maybe they need to get an NIL booster on board instead of a University VP or a local club coach, but it's the same mission at the end of the day. Sure, but hiring THAT coach is 99%+ luck. Albany hired the assistant coach from a 13-18 Clemson team. Identifying the next Kelly Sheffield is not a realistic ask of an AD.

Whether they succeed or not is up to discussion, but you should expect the AD to hit a home run every time, or else I need to look for a new AD.

There aren’t that many ADs to go around.

There aren’t that many ADs to go around. This is why they have search firms, to blame them. There are plenty of baby MBAs being churned out from the B schools, after the Wall Street firms and corporations sift through the top clones, there are still plenty of them to pick through.

I went to the athletics page to see if they promised a national search for their $12k a year job, and it turns out they haven't posted on anything since they signed their incoming class in the summer. Not even a mention of their two wins! There were only 2 of them, you couldn't find 5 minutes to write a release about them?

I enjoyed my interactions with her at Quantico and at AVCA. But I would never have known where Slippery Rock was without Ray Raynor.

No news today? Many of the worst mid-majors had their seasons end this past weekend if they failed to qualify for their conference tournament.

Northwestern State in Natchitoches Louisiana will need a GA for Fall '25. It would be ideal to bring the selected candidate in for Spring '25. Contact Cara MacFarland for more information at macfarlandc@nsula.edu. We have a high success rate of GA's advancing within collegiate coaching and/or being highly entertaining while inebriated at wedding receptions. Pick one path or both, it's entirely up to you.

Gotta be a meaningless posting, right? Interim keeping the job is a lay-up, right?
