How has this gone so awry? They’re down in the same territory as Idaho without the scandal, threads, and down right abuse. I know the school only values men’s hoops but this is tough to see

When have they ever been good? They went 27-6 in 1983! Apparently, Gonzaga went from 2-33 in 1981 to 32-10 in 1982 under coach Mandy Nyrop. She went 102-40 in her last four seasons.

Their women's basketball team is good, too. There's no reason they can't be good in volleyball with the right coach.

I know Katie a little bit. I think she is a very good coach. She can train any skill and has a great personality. I don't know if the recruiting has been great. They are also very young. They have had a couple close matches against some decent teams, just not pulling out the victory.
I hope they finish well and she gets another season there.

I didn't remember them always being this horrible, so I went back to their website to check.
Dave Gantt was the coach for 7 seasons up to 2016. From 2010-2012, they won only 1-2 conference matches each year. Then they won 7 matches in 2013, 8 matches in 2014, and 7 in 2015.
Dianne Nelson arrived in 2016: They actually had a WINNING conference record of 10-8 in 2016. 9-9 in 2017 8-10 in 2018 Then 5 conference wins, 7 wins, and 5 wins from 2019-2021
Wilson arrived December 2021: In 2022, they had only 2 conf wins In 2023, they were 3-24 with 0 conference wins in 2024, they are 1-22 with 0 conference wins
They are not likely to improve their record when they move to the new Pac-something

Well she may be a good coach, but 3 years of terrible results aren't helping her case. A change is needed, and that means coaching staff are on the chopping block.

I thought the Savannah Blinn years were going to help them get somewhere (they almost upset Washington a couple of times), but the program just can't seem to get any decent traction. It sucks because they've shown flashes of potential over the years but the program as a whole has not been great. Maybe they can look at some international recruits? That helped USF slowly get back on track.

As bad as Gonzaga has been, they have really given LMU struggles. I forgot what year, but they lost to Gonzaga twice. They may or may not have gotten an at-large that year, can't remember. The year they knocked off BYU at the buzzer they got in just barely because of that - but also lost to Gonzaga.
I kind of attribute it to the Spokane weirdness, and I guess I'll have to look up the numbers to be sure, but I think of all the WCC non-factors, Gonzaga has been the biggest thorn for LMU.

The best thing for Gonzaga's prospects is that the WCC is really fading. The middle of the pack was traditionally very strong, but that has faded over the years. The top teams are also WAY down (plus BYU left). Upward movement should be attainable.
