How do we think the open divisions will shake out? Too early to tell. Not enough teams have competed yet. Mainly since the SoCal teams arent playing and another portion of the Midwest teams will play for the first time this weekend in Nashville. Chicago just seems to be controlled by Adversity South at 18s so far. MVC at 18s will be Milwaukee stings 17s from last year. Academy heavy favorite in Nashville, probably a chance for them to win their first “big event” if they can get past HVA and MVC. Bay 2 bay will be in Indy without Rafa. Peter is a good backup setter but he isn’t Rafa. HVA will be up there obviously as well. Winter Park too. 17s since it’s not dominated by SoCal will be interesting to see if any new teams pop up, but it’s a pretty weak class overall. Cinci attack has some new pieces. Triangle is probably the favorite at this event until they aren’t. MKE Sting will be strong too. 16s, seems like MOD is loaded. They played 18s in Chicago and had a great run in their point series. So mark them as the favorite. 16s MOD

There should be some good 16s games. There are at least 4 teams that finished top ten in open at aau 15s going to Indy. Maryland Juniors, Aspire, High Performance and B2B.

Looking forward to seeing them compete, it's a shame that SOCAL teams won't there, kind of crappy that they set up a tournament in direct competition with this one kinda last minute...

It was a nice 3 year run of the Socal clubs coming to the midwest for an event. Will see if return in 2025.

What I thought I heard was that had the tournament been kept in Chicago the teams would've come, cheap skates apparently as Indy is way more expensive of a travel destination.

From what I was told. Indy about 100 more for a flight out of LAX, times not as good. Hotel rooms however about 75 less a night, and cost of living, and food cheaper in Indy. Take that for what its worth.
I hope they do come back, but I am not holding my breath. This was a bargaining chip for everyone to follow to AAU. We will hold national events and travel all across the country to play each other. Everyone went AAU whats the benefit to fly to the midwest now?

Plus they have their big Cup and Showcase events that are getting teams from all across the US. They don't need to travel, and I bet they wouldn't travel to Las Vegas if they didn't have to make a token gesture to the AZ and NV teams. The only tournament that can make SoCal travel is AAU in Orlando, and I don't see any way AAU ever moves that tournament. SoCal certainly isn't going to go to USAV Nationals in Minneapolis this year, and I would fall out of my chair if they went to whatever place USAV puts that dead event the following year. In 5 years if SoCal isn't dominating every age group, maybe you'll see them start to travel. Until that occurs, they accomplished their goal of killing off USAV Boys and now they will stay at home with the rest of the CA teams.

No and nobody really cares about that program. I think 12 regions participated in it last year. USAV doesn't even care about it, they don't even recognize it. It's an offshoot that some regions put together after High Performance was killed in favor of NTDP. Go to USAvolleyball.org notice there is no mention of it.

Go to USAvolleyball.org notice there is no mention of it. That one had some potential of being a good replacement for the old HP/NTDP tournament, and holding it at the NTDP location the first year was a good idea. I never heard anything about it last year, and like you mentioned, it pretty much fell off the map and to me sorta became an end of the year tournament for C2. It was always going to be a hard one to keep going because it was late July and by then, everyone was already on the beach circuit, or just out of volleyball for the summer.

Agree and add in the fact college camps are already in full swing by that time. It's just a bad time to hold it.

We will hold national events and travel all across the country to play each other. Everyone went AAU whats the benefit to fly to the midwest now? That was kind of their calling card.. But was not necessarily accurate. Around the time the AAU called that meeting in August I had sent one of the directors out there who made a comment about flights a screenshot of flights from LAX.. A basic economy flight from LAX was $377.00 round trip and it took off at 9:45am on Friday and landed at 4:45pm EST, direct flight. Their return flight would have been a 5:05pm and back home by 7:00pm on Monday. This was with American Airlines. Not sure about many but would have loved a direct flight with that agenda. A lot of us who fly out there for the SoCal cup have to take red eye flights on the final day and pay around $500 for direct flights. Not trying to stir the pot that has been off the stove but there was a chance for them to do it. Now I trust them when they say they are going back to Chicago next year. I have had multiple conversations with the directors out there. I think they will miss out on the event because it still has a very good field.

Until that occurs, they accomplished their goal of killing off USAV Boys and now they will stay at home with the rest of the CA teams. Yes but a lot of the clubs out there have made a legitimate effort to build relationships and connections with the programs in the midwest. There is not much traction for the Pacific Classic event besides local teams so that event will be very difficult to get going. And teams travel out to those SoCal cup events now because it was part of the relationships that they have been building in the midwest. If they do not reciprocate, programs in the Midwest will stop going out there. It is pretty simple and it will happen. A lot of the bigger MW clubs voiced their frustrations & concerns with directors out there and I think this is a one year hiatus from them not coming to the Midwest. People can go back and forth about this all we want but it is visible that the gap is getting smaller between the markets. You can no longer say they are dominating age groups outside of 18s. 17s last year was a fun ride and had a lot of mixup all year. Yes the best team ended up winning it in B2B but again they weren't in that mix until the summer. MB Surf had always been there but they are loaded with talent. Which remember B2B almost lost to HVA and Milwaukee Sting leading to that moment of winning it all. Rockstar fell apart again and didn't make it to Gold. Balboa lost in the quarters pretty handedly. 16s was one by a team of 8 kids from North Carolina of all places. 15s last year was won by a California team yes but at 14s it was a High Performance and C2 final in 2022. Dominating is no longer the statement, but they are winning it still.
