What I thought I heard was that had the tournament been kept in Chicago the teams would've come, cheap skates apparently as Indy is way more expensive of a travel destination. It'll be back in Chicago next year, so we'll see what happens I guess. This is a 3 day tourney that is not over a holiday weekend and days before Thanksgiving when lots of people travel. If Chicago holds a three day over Veteran's Day weekend then I would expect it to be a big draw again. Word is that Chicago didn't get the convention center booked for the Veteran's Day holiday weekend and had to shift to a 2 day which is why most clubs shifted to Indy.

It has never been held over Veteran's day or a Holiday weekend. The Chicago convention center was booked already for all of November basically. The same people running Indy run Chicago. They simply moved the event to Indy as they had a CC opening. AAU was very open with this communication very early in the process.

Veterans Day is always on 11/11. Therefore, it would be hard to always plan a tournament around that yearly.

These are the conversations that take place as you wait for schedules and pools to come out. Come on AAU release it already.

How do we think the open divisions will shake out? Too early to tell. Not enough teams have competed yet. Mainly since the SoCal teams arent playing and another portion of the Midwest teams will play for the first time this weekend in Nashville. Chicago just seems to be controlled by Adversity South at 18s so far. MVC at 18s will be Milwaukee stings 17s from last year. Academy heavy favorite in Nashville, probably a chance for them to win their first “big event” if they can get past HVA and MVC. Bay 2 bay will be in Indy without Rafa. Peter is a good backup setter but he isn’t Rafa. HVA will be up there obviously as well. Winter Park too. 17s since it’s not dominated by SoCal will be interesting to see if any new teams pop up, but it’s a pretty weak class overall. Cinci attack has some new pieces. Triangle is probably the favorite at this event until they aren’t. MKE Sting will be strong too. 16s, seems like MOD is loaded. They played 18s in Chicago and had a great run in their point series. So mark them as the favorite. 16s MOD I heard HVA will be attending the SoCal tournament in Long Beach this weekend.

If anyone is interested, this one is listed in Sports Wrench as the Pacific Classic events.sportwrench.com/#/events/22834cb13/divisions/18298/standingsIt's interesting that Bay to Bay went to Indy, and almost all the other CA teams went to Long Beach.

Maybe a chance to get looks at teams they may not see until June while not giving their closest competition in socal looks The SoCal Cup Winter Formal is coming up in mid-December in Las Vegas. B2B will be at that one along with pretty much every other CA club north and south.

I could be wrong but I think last year the Midwest teams skipped Winter Formal and went to Open Championship in January instead.
