Hey there,
I’m wondering if some teams already cut their roster size ? I heard about OHIO State going for 18 players limit for this year. What about other teams ? It will be interesting to see if those players who are cut are looking to transfer or they would finish with vball instead

Don’t know if they’ll add more but it’s looking like that’s what they’ll have this year

Don’t know if they’ll add more but it’s looking like that’s what they’ll have this year I have had the chance to speak with many coaches and the consensus is that they are all lining up to be at 18 comes fall of 2025, looking at roster size today gives some clues and also looking at how many of these roster spot are held by seniors seems to show that to be true. This change to roster sizes is impacting the 2025/ 2026 recruits a lot and the additions of a few programs will relieve some pressure (Manhattan, NKU, UMES). Going from 29 to 32 D1 programs adds 54 spots. in 2024 the roster size average was 21.5 so all going to 18 cuts 101 spots. that's a net negative of 45 spots... This will cut the recruiting class for 2025 in half or so...

Curious to see where LB and Lewis land this year given their large rosters last season Don't worry, Lewis will be untouched as they're D2 and they'll still get their 9 person recruiting classes. But LB and Loyola are mega roster D1s that will be severely impacted.

D1 places I remember having big rosters. These are all numbers from their 2025 rosters, so these should be current George Mason - 24 with 6 Senior/Grad Students. So they'll need to get creative for next year with their 2025 recruits St Francis used to carry mid 20's, but it looks like they trimmed down this year to 20 with 6 of those being Seniors/Grad's. So looks like they will be in a good place for their upcoming recruits LB - 24 with 5 Seniors. Similar situation to GMU, but I think they've already signed 3 2025's. Pepp - 26 with 4 Seniors/Grad's. They seem to be missing a Freshman L that I though committed there and isn't on the current roster. So they could be at 27 UCSD - 21 with 7 Seniors/Grad's. Brad better get going to recruit some kids. :-) GCU - 22 with 4 Seniors/Grad's.
And just for grins Lewis - 29 with 2 Seniors/Grad's. I think they've already signed at least 2 - 2025's, so unless a bunch of the guys leave, I would expect Lewis to go over 30 next year.

are administrators and coaches happy about this change? I would think they are as long as this is the end result but I see it as an early step toward full professional men's basketball and football leagues and possibly even the loss of funding for NCAA sports as we know them.

Aren't we basically at that stage? Kids (young adults) earning millions and a car to play football/basketball for a school is full on professional IMO.

Will there still be D1 programs that don't cut down to the 18 person roster size?

Will there still be D1 programs that don't cut down to the 18 person roster size? It is not confirmed but reports are the roster limits will apply to every D1 schools and every sport. This will be confirmed in 2025
