As I have said before, I *strongly* favor consistency and objectivity. If a metric like RPI is supposed to be the primary factor in who gets in, then it should be consistently applied.
If RPI doesn't work right then get rid of it as a factor and stop using it to justify every other decision.
They are currently #29 on the RPI list. There is no consistent/objective way that doesn't get you into the tournament.

Because it's been 17 years since they've made it to the NCAA tournament and would be the second time ever in the D1 era
(Not an actual valid reason but it would be cool if they made it back)

This thread is absolutely going to manifest a reverse sweep.

Because I’ll be more interested to see if they can hang with a good team than I would be to watch a 40-something RPI P4 school play. And the tournament should be strictly about my entertainment desires.

hypothetically couldn’t they get passed by quite a few teams in RPI with a loss?

Though at least USF beat Florida and Arkansas State beat Ole Miss.

Their best win is 71 RPI and 95 Massey. This would be two sub-100 losses.
JUST SAY NO

Only 3 matches against top 100 RPI opponents… lmao.
But with that said, if they don’t drop below 35ish then I think it would be harsh to exclude them based on RPI standing alone

Until High Point (2017) there was 20 years of data to suggest teams who do not play and win against at least one top 50 team do not get into the tournament. The committee was consistent about it. Then, something changed? Even an RPI of high 20s would get left out if the resume was completely bare.
I do think its valid to let in a team who has multiple wins over teams in the 50s or low 60s that just missed T50 cutoff.
But it’s sometimes yes, sometimes no. (South Dakota-2019 no) SFA (2023 yes).

If we let SDSU in as an at-large - Dayton should be seeded top 16.

Answer is no. You look at other bubble teams who would beat up on SDSU. But the committee will get them in if they don’t win their tournament to look “diverse” or something, idk.
(This may be a moot point as they are going for the reverse sweep)
