Looks like they managed to avoid conflicts with Elite16 events this year.

This is what Tyler Penberthy posted as to how League teams will be determined:
"three qualification events. 2 in April in Huntington, and the Huntington Heritage. Top 3 teams in those events get in, plus 1 wildcard."

Top 3 teams in those events get in, plus 1 wildcard." more information on the league qualification (sorry for poor formatting just c+p it): 2025 AVP League Overview The 2025 AVP League will consist of eight city teams, each with a women's and men's duo. The city teams are: Miami Mayhem Palm Beach Passion Dallas Dream Austin Aces LA Launch San Diego Smash Brooklyn Blaze New York Nitro Automatic Qualification The four women's and four men's duos that participated in the 2024 AVP League Championship Weekend will automatically qualify for the 2025 AVP League. Note: Duos must remain intact (you must play with the same partner from the 2024 AVP League Championship) to automatically qualify. Qualification Events All other teams must qualify through three 2025 AVP League Qualification Events: April 12 Location: Huntington Beach Format: 16-team, one-day, single-elimination event Eligibility: Only teams not already qualified for the League April 26 Location: Huntington Beach Format: 16-team, one-day, single-elimination event Eligibility: Only teams not already qualified for the League May 10-11: Huntington Beach Open Heritage Event Open to all AVP athletes Path to the League Leaderboard The winning women’s duo and men’s duo from each of the three qualification events will qualify for the 2025 AVP League. Any remaining vacancies will be filled via the Path to the League Leaderboard: A team’s best two-of-three point-earning finishes will determine their ranking, with at least one result coming from the Huntington Beach Open Heritage Event. Additional Details No Registration Fee or Prize Money No registration fee is required for the April 12 and 26 events, and no prize money will be awarded. Limited Entries Only 16 duos of each gender will be admitted to the April 12 and 26 events. Entry and seeding will be based on AVP rankings. Points Points from the April 12 and 26 events will only apply to the Path to the League Leaderboard. Normal AVP points will be awarded for the Huntington Beach Open Heritage Event. Wild Cards The AVP reserves the right to award two Wild Card spots per gender for the League.

So what's the point of the contender series matches after they figure out the league teams? It's not a lot of money and there aren't any other tourneys to make it worth it aside from the other contender tournaments.

The AVP upped the payouts in the Contenders Series in 2024 to $20,000 per gender. If that number stands, how many $20k purses are out there for beach players in the U.S.? Two of the four Palm Beach and Waupaca overlap with AVP League events, so the lesser lights have better odds to cash.

While not amazing, at least we have a draw out and out early so people can plan to attend events. It does seem strange that there is no mention of the other two league qualifying events. The only way we know about them is someone commenting on the AVP post. It would make more sense for the contender events to be right at the start of the season but I am guessing scheduling at these locations is the reason. Having the league championship in Chicago when there is no Chicago team is a bit odd and I would say the Chicago fans would rather have their standard Heritage level event. Anyway, at least there are events on and stuff to follow.

Alix/April have retired, Sara Hughes is apparently injured, and Trevor/Theo split with Trevor reportedly picking up Phil. Perhaps there will be other breakups as well, Toni needs to decide whether to go back to Geena or stick with Molly. Hailey/Kylie might be looking at other options as well. I imagine several women are waiting to see who Kelly will pick up.

(Grass though) Even if thats the point for the players, whats the point for the tour? Is this just the AVP renting its brand to local promoters? Maybe Palm Beach is a test run to see if scheduling a Contender on the Saturday/Sunday gets the Friday league teams playing for less than they normally would? (Id guess the players still dont play it)

The League qualifier on April 12 conflicts with a Challenge event in Brazil, and there’s an Elite16 in Brazil the following weekend. Those events are going to be important for any teams trying to qualify for World Champs. I’ll bet a few teams not automatically qualified for the League will go to Brazil and then hope to play well enough in the April 26 Q and Huntington Beach Heritage to make the league. Tri/Evan, James/Chaim, Abby/Savvy, Toni/Molly, Hailey/Kylie, Julia/Betsi, Terese/Megan, Kelly/partner, Cody/partner, maybe even Mel/Brandie have an interesting decision to make. As a result, the April 12 Q will likely be much weaker than the April 26 Q.
