WCC Announces All-Conference Teams
Santa Clara's Cassie Perret named WCC Player of the Year.
San Diego's Jackie Bernardin took home her third consecutive WCC Defensive Player of the Year award.
Nov. 22, 2005
San Bruno, Calif. - Santa Clara University, which claimed the 2005 West Coast Conference title, was rewarded for its outstanding season with four players being named to the 2005 All-WCC first team, including senior Cassie Perret, who took home WCC Player of the Year honors. In addition to Perret, the Broncos' Brittany Lowe garnered WCC Freshman of the Year honors, while Head Coach Jon Wallace was tabbed Coach of the Year. The University of San Diego's Jackie Bernardin was selected as the conference's Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive season.
Perret enjoyed a standout senior campaign, leading the Broncos to their fourth WCC title and their first since the 2000 season. The Menlo Park, CA native becomes just the third Santa Clara player in WCC history to earn the league's top honor, joining former Bronco standouts Kris Kosnoski (1993) and Ynez Carrasco (2000). Lowe becomes the second consecutive SCU player to garner the conference's Freshman of the Year award, and the third overall, following Annalisa Muratore, who took home the honor in 2004, and Becky Potter (2000). Bernardin, a three-time WCC Defensive Player of the Year, is San Diego's all-time digs leader, entering the week with 1,400 career digs, good for the sixth most in WCC history. For guiding the Broncos to their fourth league title, Wallace was named the WCC Coach of the Year. The coaching honor is the second such distinction in his career as he took home the conference's top coaching award in 2000 after guiding SCU to the league title.
