Janet Okogbaa. The Class 3A player of the year finished 10 points ahead of Class 6A player of the year, junior Callie Rivers(2007 Florida commit).
For those wondering, the g is silent. It's pronounced Oh-koh bah

I don't mean any disrespect whatsoever for Janet and others similarly situated (as I will explain below). But with a last name like Okogbaa, I was expecting a more exotic heritage-retaining first name. Kind of like Ogonna Nnamani. I can respect that. I always find it hilarious that people have the following names:
Billingsley Chow Esmerelda "Just call me Millicent" Lau Rodrigo Czesniak Juan Carlos Yip
Very bizarre. Don't mean to offend. The mixture of first and last names from different cultures, while interesting, is very funny to me. I personally don't mind it. I'm all for diversity. I hate it when I step into a room full of just white people, all named William Randolph Winchester III. I just find it funny that's all. If the mod(s) find this post offensive, and I certainly don't mean it that way, please delete it.

Well, Wolfie, you've done it again!
The Cardinals call and Florida loses Miss Florida Volleyball for 2 years in a row!

And I thought I was the idiot.
Take a Middle Eastern surname like Saidnawey. As an American, would it be easier if your given name were Mahmoud or George?

Well, Wolfie, you've done it again! The Cardinals call and Florida loses Miss Florida Volleyball for 2 years in a row! Well, not totally true. 1 they recruited hard, the other they did not.

You mean they didn't want Janet?

You mean they didn't want Janet? Correct. 2006 class was about finding a couple OH's, a setter and a defensive specialist. They've got 3 of the 4, just waiting and hoping for Hodge. Janet will play MB or RS in college, Florida has 4 middles(2 sophs and 2 freshmen) and Amber is only a sophomore. Janet isn't gonna want to be a back up for 2 years. Janet, imo, is still very raw and needs to bulk up a bit before she can handle the day in and day out wear and tear of college volleyball, esp. in the Pac-10. No disrespect to her, she's very talented, but basically, Florida didn't need her.

No disrespect to her, she's very talented, but basically, Florida didn't need her. I'm thinking you probably didn't mean that Florida didn't need her outright but rather, that Florida has other positions with greater need. Unless you really were saying that she's just not that good. But when you have a state player of the year, my assumption is that they're pretty good. Even so, if you've got a logjam at the position she plays (like Florida apparently does have), with much greater needs at other positions, you'd have to pass on her to make the team better.

Correct, Florida had positions of greater need to fill.

Correct, Florida had positions of greater need to fill. Sort of like Hawaii and Tamari Miyashiro last year. She's a good player and all and I would have loved to have seen her in a Wahine uniform. But Hawaii only had so many openings and really needed to shore up the outside hitter position (with Houston and Mason). So Tamari ended up at Washington.
