The camera angles and placements did not do justice to a championship match. One could not see any closeups of the play at the net, much less slow motion instant replays. Any net action could only be seen from the endzone camera far away from the action. As a Hawaii fan, I'm used to seeing an in your face look at the blocks and net play, along with multi-view instant and slow motion replays of pancake digs, net calls, line calls, and antenna calls. We did not get any of these shots.
As for the match itself, it looks like Nebraska ran up against a buzz saw today. Things may have been different on another day but today was not their day. The Huskers had a great season and should be proud of it. Congrats to Washington.

I was trying to figure out why anyone would bring up MSU at this particular time. Then I thought maybe something about Maggie Griffin?
Funny.
As for your actual post, at least it was better than their usual stuff. I still think they need to get rid of the boom. And not just because I had to sit behind it in San Diego.

Seriously, they love that crane way too much, and it's an awful shot to boot.

Vollyer...I really agree with you on TV coverage. Lousy. That endzone camera angle stinks. Why they insist on sticking with it is beyond me, for an entire volley no less. If you were first in the gym and could sit anywhere, you'd never sit where that camera is located.
The orange floor was also a major problem. Any TV tech will tell you to avoid red and orange colors. They bleed. Even HDTV struggles with red and orange.
There were not enough closeups. Not enough replays. Not enough camera angles. And when the match ended, they rushed off the air after just one brief interview. Pathetic.

That's where I always sit, actually. But the boom is just bad. They need to be up higher, which they were at times and use more zoom.

With the proliferation of HDTV, i think the the endzone shot is all but doomed anyways. with the wide aspect ratio, you're either going to end up woth lots of wasted space around the sides or or a shot that's so tight, it takes away what the end zone angle brings to the table, namely seeing all the players move and set in space. Or they bring it down to floor level, which, once again, is a bad action shot

And when the match ended, they rushed off the air after just one brief interview. Pathetic. Especially because, if i remember correctly, the timeslot wasnt over yet. It wasn't like they were late to tune into the next scheduled event. I agree that the TV coverage all around sucked.

Sitting behind it while in very good seats in San Diego was VERY frustrating. It was also annoying to see such things in that match when the camera operator had the thing parked like a foot above a server's head causing a delay in the game for someone to wander out to the camera operator to tell him to move the stupid thing so she could serve the ball. "Gee, you mean the throw the ball in the air to serve it?"
