By reading another post, I had an epiphany!
What do you think? Have all the "old-timer" coaches lost their touch? I mean because of changing times, and newer and better techiques...
I noticed that more of the "newer," younger coaches starting to become more successful than the old timers.
For example:
Shoji-hasn't won a title since the mid 80s, hasn't even made the Finals since 1996.
Banachowski-kind of the same resume, except they havent won the title since 1991-dayum...Natalie Williams..
Russ Rose- a little better success recently, but has choked ever since their last banner year in 99, not to mention the lost of Cacciamani!
Brian Gimmilaro- even better success by getting as close as to the Finals in 2001, and winning in 98 with May. But not even getting past the 1st round this year.
Kathy Gregory- well let's just say not even close to Top 10 as of late.
Jim Stone- doing okay, but.....
Hardin- medium-up and down
But you have to look at Haley, Hebert, and Dunning... especially Dunning, but would he have been as successful if still at UOP?? As for Haley, still winning at Texas? when you think about it his titles at USC were all with Elliot recruits right? The only way to tell from him would be over the next 3/4 years or so whether or not Gysin/Copenhagen will live up to hype.
Also, Shaw and Pettit I think would have still been successful coaches had they not wanted to "retire."
Speaking of retired coaches, would Elaine Michaelis still be successful if still coaching today??
Now for the young coaches... they need no descriptive explanation:
John Cook
Jim McLaughlin
Ron Patrick
Jon Wallace
Dave Rubio
Jeritt Elliott
Pete Waite
*Mary Wise and Nina Mathies are people who I don't know if older coaches or newer coaches
