Jen Saleamua has signed with a professional team in Puerto Rico. Melissa Elmer will also be signing to play in PR if she hasn't already. Nothing like a fat paycheck, and an apartment on the beach to help heal the wounds!

Not understanding the "bad apple" part especially with Elmer. Also just out of curiosity how fat are those paychecks? Obviously more than in the US because of no paychecks but have always been curious about how much a player could make outside of the US.

The Bad apples is a jab at an earlier post that reffered to Jen as her families bad apple. There is a pretty big range in salary, Jen and Elmer will be in the 25 - $40,000 range I would guss Elmer will be in the higher end of the range Metcalf and players of that stature made considerably more . Not bad money for a 3 month season.

Unless they've changed the salary structure lately, no one in PR is making 40k. There is a cap on both team and individual salaries in Puerto Rico and unless the cap has risen dramatically, 40k would be more than half of the team cap! That being said, at least one maybe more teams last year were suspected if not caught breaking the cap. USAFAN may know more on this subject...

The cap is on paper-this is PR and they have along tradition of paying under the table.

Murina, is right and wrong. There is a cap but I know players who are making 40.

Murina, is right and wrong. There is a cap but I know players who are making 40. The cap is $20,000. The cap is actually $35,000 for "international players" (americans) this includes achievement bonuses (top 5 in kills, etc.)

There is a salary cap for "non-PR" players of $50,000 total for the team. And yes, there was money under the table. And the league is investigating several teams. So it is very likely that the teams will have to "toe the line" this year. Last year Cauguas had both Kim Willoughby and Stacey Gordon. Kim was reported to have been paid the entire $50,000, but I don't think SG played for free. That was the case for the investigation. Still, not bad pay for 4 months of semi-work with most expenses paid.
